Fellas, think I my have screwed up....

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I did the Clear Liquids for two days post op then full liquids (optifast) for total of two weeks. I was supposed to move on to puree diet today so I was looking forward to different taste. Made some egg salad and tuna salad and mashed potatoes. Had a decent day at work but realized when I got home that I didn't actually send the stuff through the blender . I chewed really well, but don't know if I royally screwed myself today:confused2:. Opinions needed... and Thanks in advance.

No worries, mate. Some MD's start their patients on mashed food in the hospital, upgrading them to solid food within a week or so, I believe. You'll be fine with a single episode of thick mashies...

I agree with Fenton, dont worry about it. You would have probably known if it was a problem. I started my regualer diet at the end of three weeks. I had lost 30 lbs on the liquid diet, but then gained back 10 the first week of mushies. I decided if I was gaining weight, I would eat normal. Took it slow, one normal meal a day and what do you know? I stopped gaining weight. I am still trying to balance it out now, because I havent gained anymore, but I havent lost anything either. My first fill isnt until August 4th, so I am just trying to ride it out.

Good luck and whatever you do, take it slow.

Not to worry - those are still "soft foods" and sounds like you chewed thoroughly. Besides, as Cowboy mentioned, you probably would have known (felt it) if you did something wrong.

As long as you didnt have problems dont worry, but dont push it while the band is healing. You dont want to PB at this time because it could cause a slip.

Obsidian..........Don't even give it a second thought, I was on full solids by day eleven with absolutly NO problems. Like they said before you would know immediatly if there was a problem. The guidlines are just that, guidelines. Everyone will react differently, you know your body better then anyone just use common sense and listen to your body and you will be fine.

You will be OK. If you were not OK, it would have hurt internally by now. Just be careful in the future, as it hurts real, real bad when you do it wrong just post surgery! I found that out the hard way and don't recommend it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
