I've been reading here for a few days, Seems like a place I'd like to visit:smile:

I'm scheduled to go for my orientation on Friday, thr 11th. When I asked my primary care doctor if he thought I could be a candidate, He said sure!

He thinks it would help me alot.

I have COPD and fibromyalgia. I'd lost #80 taking Metabolife, working out with a personal trainer 3 times a week. I got down to 238 when I had to go to the ER one night cause I couldn't breathe. Stayed there for 5 days, IV steroids. nebulizer, oxygen, Then i get home and I'm researcing that, I come across how COPD patients lose weight, and they shouldn't. Well to me this means go back to old eating habits! Not being able to exercise didn't help either. On steroids to breathe about ever 6 weeks. I hate them! Become such a bitch, and a starving one...there came the first #30 pound gain,

Then quit smoking..its so hard! But i did manage to quit, but gained another 30 there,

Then I had something wrong with my leg. Turns out it was fractured, but i didn't find that out for 3 months. By this time. i'm in pain everywhere. Did my internet searchs, narrowed it down to Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthitis or Fibromyalsia. Had all of those tests, everything normal, but have the pain and the tenderpoints of fibro. So now I don't do much of anything...and gained another 20.

So I'm right back where I started 6 years ago! I hate the way I look, the huge clothes I have to wear now. I've tried everything, and i think this is my last hope. My back and legs hurt so bad that I can't do much. I know I'd still have the fibro pain, but I think it would be less if I wasn't packing all this fat around too...

Now that I've decided to do this, i wanna do it like tomorrow....lol

But I'll get my work done first...just wish I had a little more patience.

Well thats me, and any time you find me on, just say Hi

Nancy:thumbs_up:

Hi and Welcome, Nancy!

Wow, you do have a lot going on! Don't despair, hon. We all have been there at some point in our life. The lap band may be your answer. I have diabetes and asthma so I can relate to your frustrations. I am a teacher and when I got home from school, I would crash. I have a smalll horse farm and doing chores was just agony. Depressed, I researched and found the LB might be my answer. I was scared but hopeful. I did not want bypass because I did not want to be cut up and rearranged. Thankfully, I was a good candiate for LB although if I had waited bypass would have been my only option.

Now four weeks to the date, I have lost 33 #. I did have a hard time with the anethesia after the surgery and just got over some type of stomach flu, (that was horrible) I feel much better today! My exercising has been somewhat hampered as I have a MCL tear in my knee. I am going a specialist in a few days to decide what to do... so you see, I can relate to you!!

Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
