June Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

My doc explained it to me this way... That by not eating sugars and carbs, you force your body into pulling out glycogen from the stores that are in your liver for energy (sugar that isn't burned for energy is converted to glycogen and stored in the liver). This shrinks the liver and makes it easier for the surgeon to work inside of your body cavity. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Doing pretty good. Got through the rougher part of the pain over the weekend and just learning now how to eat enough. Also learning to sip and not gulp is HUGE. I keep learning the hard way.

Also, getting in front of hunger, eating before I'm starving, is important.

In all, it's gone GREAT!

Hi All-

I have failed that I've not updated the first post with upcoming surgery dates lately.

I went back to work the Monday after my surgery. I've felt great aside from finding myself ravenously hungry at times. I played golf yesterday (made it through all 18 holes!)--(I did check with the Dr. on this) Didn't play too shabby--it's never great, but I had a ball.

I had my preop appointment on June 17--The doc said I had a great looking liver! I go back to see the nutritionist on July 7th.. My first fill is scheduled for July 22nd. I think that will be none too soon!!

All in all I'm doing dandy..

I hope and wish the best for all June Bandsters-and everybody else too ;)

Sal

Well I survived, I felt pretty crappy for the first few days but slowly came around and started walking outside. I took 8 days off from work. Just returned back last Friday. I lost 12 pounds the first week and 0 so far the second, which I don't know how thats possible, but anyways. I saw my doctor last week and he told me to get my but into the gym, which I have started. Over all I'm feeling pretty good.

I am at the end of three weeks today. I get solid food tomorrow. For me it has been an amazing experience, mostly because of the mental component. I NEVER would have thought that I could go three weeks without solid food. (Well, I did do mashed potatoes twice, Peanut Butter and mashed avocado three times.) BUT for the most part I did AMAZINGLY WELL! I am so proud of myself. I am down 13.5 pounds. I feel good. Somebody at work today (a man no less, who did not know I had surgery) told me I was losing weight. I thanked him for noticing-hell I wanted to grab him and kiss him!

I am having a great deal of work at stress but I am still holding on. I have decided to do 30 good things for myself in 30 days. (watching tv does not count). I have had a pedicure, gone to church, gone to a support group, took a nap and various other leisure activites. PLUS I had a guy I have thought was cute ask me to lunch!

I feel like I am in a better mindset already. I look forward to the future and I know through GOD all things are possible...even me getting skinny. He is a true miracle worker!!!!

I was banded on June 9. I really didn't have a good nutritionist to guide me through the timelines. He kind of just said advance to full liquids, pureed and soft foods as tolerated. I now know that this isn't the case. I did stick to Clear Liquids for the first week, but after about 4 days on full liquids I started with soft foods. I didn't have any problems, but realized through a fellow bandster that I was still in the healing phase and needed to revert back and finish out on pureed, soft, and then solids. I have lost 11 lbs. so far, but do get very hungry at times. I try to stay ahead of the hungry phase by eating before I'm starving and that seems to be working better.

I was vacuuming the other day and bent down to pick up a toy in the way and felt pain over my port site. It's diminished with each passing day so I don't think I did any damage internally or to the port, but I do think I pulled or stretched the muscle right around that area. Other than that, doing fine and trying my best to stay focused. Boy is it hard!!!!!!!!

I am finally doing OK. It was a really rough first 9 or 10 days but I feel pretty good now. Still having trouble getting comfortable at night. I have found that sleeping wedged between two pillow so I am not on my side but not on my back either..sort of propped on the pillows, makes it better. It just feels like everything is pulling and sore when I try to sleep.

I have added liquid Iron and I think the anemia may be on the mend but still feeling a little unwell.

Best of luck to you last three June bandsters!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
