What's the dill, pickles?

Recommended Posts

Hey lady77, my insurance company is Pacificare. They've been great up to this point. I've asked myself just why I'm doing this to myself, but something just won't let me quit! Go figure!

serenity, did u say that u called your dr. In march and u haven't heard back? Omg ! That is outrageous. Here's a thought: get a copy if your medical records find another doc that is a " friend to the process" and have them submit the info. My surgeons office has the job of getting my surgery approved. Not my PCP hmm

Hey,

April, I'm sorry. I didn't make myself clear. I started the process in March, and just this past week, I got the responses from my service provider. I have been in touch with my doctor; as a

matter of fact I've been to see her a few times since I've started this process And that's what has me confused. I've heard lots of folks say that their PCP sends an referral to the surgeon. Mine doesn't seem to think she can do that. Is it because she has to have the authorization from insurance first?

Oh I see. My referral comes from my surgeon to my ins.co. I had to attend a free seminar by the surgeon(the surgeon would not see me otherwise) Then I had my initial consultation (there was $170 fee for this visit). It is at this visit that the ins. person at the surgeon's office told me my next steps. I had to do a six months visit with my pcp. At the end of the six months my pcp submitted the info to my surgeons office. The ins. lady at the surgeons office then submitted everything to my ins. co. for approval. I hope this helps:sneaky:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
