rcruz 0 Posted July 9, 2008 GOSH so soon. I am only 2 weeks post op and here I sit with the most horrible cramps. I have not had a period in forever and the day of surgery I was spotting the ole brownish stuff but like always brushed it off as PCOS working at it's best! Anyway my breast have been extremely sore another side affect I never experienced! I have lost 15lbs and I know that with losing weight PCOS can be put under control but damn this is fast! Not unless with taking the metformin it was beginning to work it's self out on it's own I don't know. But my question how long after surgery did your cycles come back normally? rcruz 0 Posted July 12, 2008 Well I think you answered my question or suspecting it had to be a reason. Thanks!!!!!
Jodi_620 37 Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) I had my surgery on May 29th, got a period on June 9th and another one on July 6th...do the math that is a 28-day cycle!!! I hadn't had a period in forever before these two. I can't explain the science behind this but I believe...correction: I know that it can happen that quickly for some. My thoughts were that it probably has to do with both the weight loss and the diet; pre-op and post-op for me were very low carb/no processed carbs which of course is best for those of us with PCOS. Just a heads-up: The first one for me was extremely heavy, I guessed that it was my body shedding the buildup after such a long time. I couldn't go anywhere between days 2 and 4 due to the heavy flow. The second one was a little heavy but not nearly as bad. Mrs J.J 2 Posted July 18, 2008 Excuse me asking this, did you ladies stop having your periods because of your weight issues? I have never heard of this, so that is why I am asking.
Jodi_620 37 Posted July 18, 2008 No, this is the PCOS board. We have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which is caused by insuline resistance. Lack of periods is one of the many possible symptoms of this condition (other possible symptoms are ovarian cysts, excess weight, acne, excess body and facial hair, infertility, skin tags to name a few). New research shows the promising idea that the Lap Band can put this condition in remission and I believe it is true.
Sunwyse 1 Posted July 24, 2008 I'm still to have my surgery. I've had around 3 periods a year most of my life. No set time though, they could be evenly spaced or all come one after the other and then no more for 15 months! Well I had one about 2 months ago and wouldn't you know it, today was my first appointment with the surgeon and I go and start my period yesterday! Funny how it all works. Lutasha 102 Posted August 12, 2008 I started taking Metformin (1500mg per day) in June 2007 and it took about 2 or 3 months to get regular periods, but now I can write calendars by them...until my surgery. It was about 5 days late the month I got banded. I was terrified that I was pregnant, but nope. I figure it might have been the stress or the liquid diet.< /p>
mom2twins 0 Posted August 12, 2008 With the lack of periods with pcos you can have what they call break through bleeding. It is like the period from hell and makes up for all the missed ones at one time. I even ended up in the ER once because the break through was so bad they thought at first I was having a miscarriage until the counted and my hubby had been deployed to long for it to be that. Can we still take Midol? that was my only saving grace when I did get that time.

FeliciaLevy75 0 Posted August 12, 2008 I got mine 1 month after surgery and had another one about a month and nine days after that. I hadn't been on any sort of pill for a while, so I called my OB and and she put me on them - easier to track and know when they're coming! I wasn't regular even last time I was on the pill, so I go back in four months to see how "regular" I have become so we can keep an eye on things.
