CoachCher 1 Posted July 9, 2008 I am waiting till week 6 to try corn, steak, pork chops and rice. Read my P B from H E double hockey sticks article. Pork chops and steak are very tricky. Make sure you chew chew chew even if your not very tight, it's nice to already have this practice down.
rames767 0 Posted July 9, 2008 If we aren't supposed to take any of the medicines listed, what can we take for a headache or cramps or whatever?
Maincat 14 Posted July 9, 2008 Three rules I have (well they work for me): Always eat Breakfast Never go back for seconds Don't drink with your meal I eat what the rest of the family eats, including rice, Pasta, cheese etc. I just don't have large portions like I used to have. I have about half a plate and I'm full. As for medications, I just take my doctor's advice. Never been told to lay off aspirin.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted July 10, 2008 You really can take medications. You just need to drink a ton of Water to make sure it passes through the band to your regular stomach. My dr. said it doesn't matter what you take as long as you flush it out of your pouch. I take it with hot water. Hot stuff is supposed to open the band. Boysaway 0 Posted July 10, 2008 It is a wise one. Not that drinking will cause you any 'problems', but it will work against you in that it helps wash the food down quickly -- sometimes before your brain gets the message that your pouch is now full.quote] If I don't drink a cup of hot black tea immediately before eating, I can't get anything down at all! angelface 1 Posted July 12, 2008 Like "athinnerdenise", my doctor said that I can take all medicines if they are broken and don't sit in my stomach. Gastric bypass patients have more restrictions. He did say no time release pills though.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted July 12, 2008 Glad to see another doctor agrees with my dr. It takes 24 oz of Water to get my medicine down. I know they are through the pouch cause I can feel it when they pass through.
ImGonnaLose 0 Posted July 12, 2008 My Dr's PA told me that I couldn't use ibuprofen or aleve, but that I could have a prescription for Celebrex. That surprised me.
KikiVal315 4 Posted July 12, 2008 BREAD :cursing: i thought i could be one of the lucky ones and enjoy an occasional bite or two and chew chew chew chew, but NO...stuckage galore!
georgebals 0 Posted July 12, 2008 NO smoking, rum, bread, Pasta, cocaine, rice, milk, morphine, sugar, honey plus am cutting back on butter & coconut oil when in Belize. Ice Cream, donuts & cakes & pies some of the fun stuff that got me fat. Big 1 I don't touch carbonation. Cheat at Caffine my shirnk will never catch me (her rule) Good Luck to all. em-tucky 0 Posted July 14, 2008 Rum? I have read over and over carbonation is a no no, but is liquor on this list too? I realize no one should be drinking their calories, but an occasional drink with a juice mixer, is this ok?
CoachCher 1 Posted July 14, 2008 I drink vodka with Sonic's Cranberry Limeaide and have no problem. I also drink vodka with strawberry-cranbury with a splash of 7-up to take away the tartness and again no problems. As banded people we "CAN" have carbonation, but we "SHOULDN'T". It's all about the extra calories and sugar we should be avoiding it's not the carbonation we should be avoiding. I'm 4 years post op so I have a pretty good handle on what I "CAN" and "SHOULD'NT" have.
Carrie_C 9 Posted July 14, 2008 I was told carbonation could cause the pouch to bloat and that could cause the band to slip.
em-tucky 0 Posted July 14, 2008 From what I've heard/read/been told...carbonation causes the pouch to expand and then you will have a larger pouch, meaning you can consume more food, hindering your weight loss. Honestly, diet cokes aren't worth the worry, I'd just have to train myself to go off them way before I have the surgery, as long as tea and coffee is okay for my daily caffeine I will be OK
georgebals 0 Posted July 14, 2008 Each place & Doctor has a different twist on this em-tucky. My band Doctor says O.K. My psychologist = step or rule #4. Drink Water. no carbonation (soda) Alcohol calories caffine. Her main concerns are you would be way over level of intoxication with new smaller stomach. She is really supprized no one has pointed this out in court. Almost sounds like Carrie Nations the WCTLU Womens Christ Temperence Leauge Union. I dream of rum Belizian Casussa.
