I was recently banded on July 3rd. I'm really looking forward to having full liquids soon. I'm so eager to see how this progresses. I've heard in some places that I can't eat rice anymore, but in some places I've read that I can. What's the deal with rice??

Thanks,

Tasha

I have no trouble with rice but I was also told wouldn't be able to swallow all of my supplements and Vitamins and I have no trouble with those either unless they are really big horse pills.< /p>

I haven't tried rice but I don't have any trouble with pills of any kind. I have been on Bactrim DS for a kidney infection and they are BIG, but I didnt have any problem at all with them. I guess everybody's different. I am 2 months post-op and have never had PB or slime either and I hear other people talking about it all of the time. Maybe I am just lucky!! Good luck and welcome to the band. I would do it again in a minute. It does require work but it is so worth it. I love it!!

Everyone is SOO different when it comes to types of food that BLOCK or STICK. It's one of those trial and error things. As you get more fills, some foods will not go down so easy or actually cause PAIN! If I eat anything Gummy like tortilla or bread, , it gets stuck and swells a little which causes pain until it manages to go down. I STAY AWAY FROM IT!

I haven't had too much problems with rice, as long as I eat small bites at a time and chew, chew chew...

Just eat slow and you will find out what foods work and what doesn't..

Im glad I can't eat all those refined carbs anymore, they aren't good 4ya.

good luck!!!!!!!!!!:wink2:

Thanks for the insight. I ask because I love sushi, which was a huge pre-surgery "weakness". Not in the sense that it's unhealthy like some people are with sweets, but I craved it. I still do. I'm just wondering if I'll be able to eat it when I can transition to solids...

Productive burping and sliming. I learned about it right here. Just type it in the search and it will tell you all about it...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
