mountain momma 0 Posted July 8, 2008 HI OUT THERE! JUST MADE MY FIRST APPT, MY SISTER HAD GASTRIC BYPASS, AND MY OTHER SISTER HAS LAP BAND. I'M GOING FOR THE BAND. Brandy~ 2 Posted July 8, 2008 I researched it for 2 years first and then after speaking to my insurance I was required to complete a 6 month diet before having the surgery... so in October I had a consult and surgery on 4/23... It was the best thing I ever did thats for sure. Good luck with your consult and your surgery
daisybug 0 Posted July 8, 2008 I only waited six weeks between my consult & actual surgery date. I was SELF PAY,, I know it can be much longer if your insurance covers it. Some insurance companies will demand lots of info, etc.... all depends! good luck!!!!! 278/231/

kiz 1 Posted July 8, 2008 (edited) HI OUT THERE!JUST MADE MY FIRST APPT, MY SISTER HAD GASTRIC BYPASS, AND MY OTHER SISTER HAS LAP BAND. I'M GOING FOR THE BAND. HOW LONG DID YOU GUYS HAVE TO WAIT FROM CONSULTATION TO ACTUAL SURGERY DATE?:confused2: Are you using insurance or self pay? It took me about two months. I could have gone in a week earlier, but it didn't work for my schedule. I'm self pay. Edited July 8, 2008 by kiz
NanaRenan 0 Posted July 8, 2008 I went for my consult in March -- had completed the insurance companies requirements (5 yr. weight history, 90 day diet, sleep study, psych eval, etc.) and surgeon submitted request first of June, they denied and we appealed until the end of July before they caved -- surgery was August 14th. I have Aetna and was a 45 y/o diabetic heart patient with a BMI of nearly 60!" My DIL went for her consult, provided 5 yr. weight history, was approved 11 days later and had surgery like 3 days after that. She has United Health care and she's a 25 y/o with NO co-morbities. Go figure! Anyhow, now I want my son to have the surgery -- while they have such an agreeable insurance!! LOL

ssflbelle 829 Posted July 9, 2008 I have had to wait 6 weeks for my first consultation and it is coming up on July 22nd. So once I meet with the Dr I will have a better idea how much longer I will have to wait.
