How to Avoid Loose Skin After Surgery

Recommended Posts

This is a fear of mine as well. It is a bit of a double-edged sword to bust your butt to get down to a reasonable goal weight - only to still be disappointed in what you're looking at in the mirror! As a newly single girl (separated/divorce pending), I worry a lot that I'll lose my weight, then won't want to go out with anyone new because I'll look like a melting marshmallow. laugh.gif

From everything I've read and heard, the Protein component is a new one. I'll have to take that into consideration. But I'm with Jachut - I think it comes down to exercise, genetics... and let's not forget time. When you first hit your goal after losing a considerable amount of weight - your skin MAY snap back to a degree as it "refits" itself around your smaller frame. So don't judge your body (ha - who am I kidding?) too harshly right away - allow yourself time to become the "new" you.

Also, I imagine lots of Water would help too - since it's no secret that plenty of Water intake increases your skin's elasticity. And while it's a crapshoot, products with peptides in them are made to increase collagen and elastin production - perhaps that would help too? Of course, most peptides are in eye cream - so have fun rubbing eye cream all over your thighs and belly. laugh.gif

I was told by my surgeon, and physical therapist that exercise (LIKE POLATISE) is the only thing that works.

Provided that you have not already lost the elasticity in your skin. Usually in us older people.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
