Need some help with this liquid diet

Recommended Posts

My Dr wants me to have between 74 and 91grms of Protein a day! I looked around and found Advantage from Atkins...there shakes are 20grm each...but they have a terrible aftertaste (very dissapointing). I think it's from the splenda (I really don't like splenda). I've tried slimfast but the grit makes me want to gag. Does anyone else have any ideas? Anything good that you like?

I don't do Protein Drinks, but when I was on my post-op liquid diet, I had 3 CIB drinks a day. Each is 20 grams of Protein and 230 calories. What I did was:

1 packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (get the blue box -- no-sugar added)

1 cup skim milk

1/3 cup powdered milk.

Mix it all up and drink! I would have 1/2 of one every 2-3 hours during the day, for a total of 60 grams of protein, 690 calories. Since we can have more calories than that, I also had Soups, koolaid (sugar free), whatever.

Believe you me - you can't cheat with the band -I tried.

Hang in there and focus on something else - clothes shopping in a smaller size - paint a room - clean - anything just to divert you attention.

YOU CAN DO THIS and if you falter - get up and keeping going.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from that nasty drink! I'm feeling really cranky! I can't wait to go home and try one of the other drinks I've bought...Maybe I'll splurge and eat a smart one dinner :)

I like the pro perfomance 95 from GNC. 25 g soy Protein + the amount from the skim milk. Icould eat three a day and not want to kill every human. The taste was good for me- I liked the vanilla, choclate - but there are other flavors Cookies and cream and bannana and strawberry.< /p>

I have mixed in berries or cinamon or 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee or a bannana to vary the flavor and get me some more carbs (I was nursing at the time) or a punch! I occasionally still use one when I am to tight (for what ever reason about 1/3 the time in the morning) or when I am making shakes for dh and the kids with ice cream.

I am a big believer in soy protein! And occasionally I need it to keep my protein above 75 g (again - I am nursing still)

I went to smoothie king and got a wonderful Protein Powder. I mixed it with one banana and five strawberries and a little bit of Water and ice and I can't wait everyday to drink it.

Smoothie king lets us taste their products to find the one you like the best.

I use Unjury Protein powder. There web site is unjury.com It has a really good taste and comes in chocolate, vanilla and unflavored. They sell samples so you can try before you get the large containers. 20 grams per scoop then the 9 from the milk. They also have lots of receipes for you there. You can give them a try. I love it!!

Yikes! I sure hope I'm misunderstanding you Aileena! Please tell me you are not actually going to have real food! This is not the time for food, it is the time for healing!

Also, you are no longer a dieter! The band means not having to diet! We are making a new life style for ourselves.

Thank you all for all the concern...I've been good :) I went home and told my sister I was going to eat, but she gave me this look...and reminded me, it was only an hour or so until bed...So I made a Protein shake ...then took a shower. The next day was so much better!

ONLY 6 MORE DAYS TO GO :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
