I'm starting my pre-op diet today!

Recommended Posts

We are starting the countdown! 10 days from today I will be banded! My Dr must be really strick because I'm practically on a liquid diet from here on out...I do get 1 sm meal a day (smart ones or similar). I totally binged all weekend, saying goodbye to the overly full feeling...it was really good...I had lasagna on Sat...ribs on Sun....everything was so wonderful!

But to tell you the truth...it feels even better to know I've started down a new path. I'm ready....Now I need to get my ticker and I'll be set!

aileena, I also had to do a liquid diet for a week before surgery. Its easy the first few days and then it just gets harder. But its well worth it. You will do fine.

Aileena, Good luck on the pre opt diet - I can say - I didn't need to do it and I was a little caught off guard having to do it after. Clear Liquids? ?

I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet, but I did have to do 6 weeks post-op. Sucked at first, but totally for my benefit. I lost 32 lbs those 6 weeks - anesthesia helped that too. I don't handle anesthesia well.

Good luck! The hardest part is the mind games you play with yourself. Ain't no winners there.

My surgery date is the 26th also. My surgeon normally requires 2 weeks of pre-op but since I was in Ecuador on vacation they let me off the hook until today. I ate and ate and ate in Ecuador and LOST 3.2 pounds. I called my nutrionist today and she said the high altitutde (9500 ft) does that to some people.

Maybe I wouldn't need surgery if I moved...

So today is my 1st day. My pre-op diet is 2 shakes a day (20plus grams Protein and less than 5 gram carb) plus 1 meal with 4 oz meat and 1/2 c vegetables.

I know its going to be tough cooking for my nieces graduation this weekend but it will pay off.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
