Newbie saying hi!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for months now, reading as much as possible. Was banded on May 9. I lost 14 lbs the first 2 weeks..then nothing until I had my first fill on June 11. I was filled with 4 cc's (I have a 14 cc band) and lost another 10 or so lbs in the next week...but again, nothing since then. I feel a little disappointed that the weight loss isn't more "regular" but I keep working at it. I certainly eat less than before and I regularly exercise at least 5-6 days per week. I think that's the surprise..I'm eating less and exercising more than pre-band and the weight isn't "falling" off. It seems though there is no "normal" and I'm already thrilled at the 24 lb loss so I'll keep on working it!

As many ppl have posted, I will say that I can eat more than a cup of food and no food is really off limit for me with the exception of bread, steak and some fresh fruit like cantalope. I'm surprised by the amount I can still eat. If I eat too fast, I don't feel good, so I'm glad for that..it helps me to focus and take my time...I've only had one thing make it's way back up (the cantalope ~that sucker slipped down so fast I didn't have a chance to chew it good..LOL)

I am so happy I made the decision to go for this. I just keep reminding myself that I wanted the band because it was less invasive AND I had to participate in it's success~~hmmm, who was I kidding :biggrin2:..but it sounded good. In any event, I'm now in for the long run. Wish me luck. My next fill is end of July...I think i might schedule sooner..but it's no real rush..it took 10 years for me to put this weight on and I am trying not to rely on the fills...to me, they're..shall I say..the "icing on the cake."

Here's to hitting my "sweet spot" sooner rather than later!

and ps: please tell me what PBing, sliming is????? I'm such a loser, but i don't know (I am guessing but just want to be sure

Thanks All

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
