Peanut Butter and Jelly???

Recommended Posts

Is Peanut Butter and jelly ok? I would spread it very thin on toasted whole wheat bread or on thin tortilla.

Sometimes you just have to have a taste of the comfort food!

I've enjoyed it twice since banding (May 7th). My dietician said I could prob tolerate it right now, but prob not when I was more restricted. I use lo-fat PB and sugar free jelly on very toasted whole grain bread.< /p>

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try it like I said, very thin spread on toasted bread, but I will also ask the doctor what he thinks.

My dietitian told me to use only natural Peanut Butter (it contains just peanuts and salt), as regular or even low fat peanut butter is loaded in sugars and hydrogenated fats. Two teaspoons of natural peanut butter is one fat serving. I'd only use sugar-free jams and jellies, but that's me.

I agree with you on needing some comfort foods once in awhile! :cool2: I used to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (before I had the band) all the time. Now, I just stick with the natural peanut butter on a banana - bread gets stuck with me. :) I haven't tried very thin toasted bread, maybe I'll give that a try myself!

I haven't had a problem with Peanut Butter. I used the light and the natural. My Dr. and nutritionist have it on my list of acceptable foods. The natural and low carb are great sources of Protein. Check with your Dr.

I have eaten extra crunchy Peanut Butter on toasted bread, very crisp rye krisp crackers and occasionally on sliced apples.

I would suggest trying Peanut Butter OR jelly -- not together. If you have problems, you won't know which food is causing the difficulty.

Try jelly thin on pita. If tolerated, try PB on pita. If you're ok - then go for both. Just better to introduce one food at a time.

I love P.B. I was glad that I could still eat my favorite Breakfast after being banded. I toast one Special K waffle, put 1 Tbsp of creamy P.B. and 1 Tbsp of lite Syrup on it. Very Yummy!!!

I love PB but I didn't know what to eat it on. I tried it today extra crunchy low fat on two reduced calorie triscuit crackers. Yummmmyyy.

I like the thought of bananas. I used to have a little Peanut Butter on celery before banding but I dont think I can tolerate the celery any more. I have only had PB once since banding, and to be honest, it happened after I first read this thread. I think it is healthy in moderation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
