Hi from Kentucky! (Just south of Louisville)

Hey everyone! I'm a 28 y/o newlywed hoping to take quite a bit of weight off in order to safely conceive eventually. I have PCOS, hyperthyroidism and hypertension, but my cholesterol is perfect (go figure). I just found the site, but have been considering banding for a while. I go for the first information seminar on July 17th, which is required to get the ball rolling. I am going through Norton's. Would love to find a local buddy to share experiences with.

I don't live anywhere near you, but wanted to say good luck with your journey. I'm coming to KY in 2 weeks, to burnside for vacation. Never been to KY before, but really looking forward to it. We live outside of Houston, so it is going to be an 18 hour drive for us.

Anyway, good luck to you and your in the right place for the lap-band questions and inquiries.

Thanks ladies!

kyteachjules - I wish I could have gone through Dr. Kaza, but alas they are not "A Center of Excellence" yet in the eyes of Tricare, so I can either wait til they become one, or go elsewhere and I am nice and motivated, so I really just want to get it over with. The surgery part freaks me out. I am a worry wart by nature though.

Hi Mellygirl! I'm from Mt. Washington so we're really close! I am getting banded on 10-30-08 but having to go to MX to get it done...no ins coverage but am super excited (and nervous)about the trip. I've done a lot of research and am confident in my decision. Maybe we can keep in touch since we are so close!

Yeah, the office in MX told me that Jeffrey Allen's office (University Surgical Assoc.) would take me but I called a few others since I HATE driving in downtown Louisville. I didn't have any luck though. Dr. Shina and Dr. Gellar would not take MX surgery patients so Dr. Allen it is. I called them and they were really nice. They have 5 dr's in the practice so she said I would never have problems getting in. They have other MX pt's. They require me to have a nutrition consult and a psych eval-don't know why the psych eval since it will be AFTER surgery.

Hi, I live in Louisville and had my surgery at St Mary and Elizabeth Hospital with Dr. Schuster on June 10th. I have been very happy that I had it done and feel sooo much better already. I have lost 26 lbs since the surgery and although I would like to lose faster the DR is quite happy with my progress. There are several others that I work with that have had the surgery at St Mary's and we compare weight loss and experiences.

It has been a very easy process and I haven't had any problems and I truly recommend it to anyone to help them get healthy. You have to work with the lapband tool but it is such a great help for me and I know it would work for you. If you have a special questions please email me and I will respond.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
