one week post op no restriction

Recommended Posts

Very few people lose much weight during the mushy stage. Mushies are by their very nature carbs.... so yes, they do add up, but this is not the time to worry about weight - it's the time to heal. (which does not mean pig out....just use common sense!). Your weight lose will get in gear after you heal and after you can begin balancing your diet out with some nice normal foods. Don't be beating yourself up.....just do what you were told and relax. It's also a good time to experiment with shakes, sample different ones, find some you love - they'll mke post op life much easier and much healthier.

I am 10 days post-op and do not feel much restriction - can pretty much eat whatever I want - I do not eat nearly as much but have no trouble eating because I chew everything really well - I told my doctor today and he said it was good that I wasn't choking but it was bad that I was not still on liquid foods because I am not through healing - I am so hungry during the day that it is hard not to eat - of course that is the point. I get my first fill in 4 weeks and I am afraid that I will not have lost any weight - I thought by then I would be down quite a bit. The only thing I had trouble with was taking a Vitamin that is huge - won't do that again and a boiled egg that I obviously didn't chew well enough and I choked on it and it hurt really bad sticking in my esophagus.

Thanks guys for all the addvice I hope its not too late and I hope I didn't do any damage to my lap band. I started the mushy food today and I will fallow the diet. I wish my Dr would have told me more info on the diet stuff I fell like I was just passed right through his office. I don't feel any restriction and I wonder if they could have put a larger band on me has any one had that happen to them.

hello i was just banded on the 9th of june. all i drank was slim fast and Unjury Protein Shakes. i will say it was difficult at times but i stuck with it. and it paid off my first dr. visit i had lost 21 pounds from my pre-surgery weight. just stick with it and the weight will start to come off. we commonly base the weight loss off of the gastric, and banding is different than that.i fyou are not feeling restricted then you should ask your dr. for a early fill. my dr. told me that it could be done if i felt thath i was able to tolerate more food.< /span>

For mushy ideas, I ate lots of homemade lentil Soup and refried Beans blended with chicken broth and a little melted cheese. It was high in Protein and very good.

I have been banded going on six months at the end of this month. If I have learned anything it is that you need to stick to your doctors suggested diet and follow bandster rules to find weight loss success.

Dont start eating solid food and skip stages. At one week out, eating solid food already and skipping stages, you are at risk of damage to your band down the road. It doesnt matter that you can do it without being too uncomfortable. It is a matter that your stomach needs to heal completely before you start making it work.

Not everyone loses weight at this stage. The focus has to be healing right now, and believe me, the weight loss will come if you follow your bandster rules and doctors orders.

Yes, you need to go back to mushies as prescribed. Please don't put your health at risk. It is not worth it when you only have a couple of weeks when you can start eating again with little risk. The band won't do you any good if you have a complication and lose it altogether down the road.

I have a friend who didn't lose any weight for 6 months - that seems incredible to me - she said after 6 months all of a sudden she was able to push the plate away - she has since lost 150 lbs.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
