Fill or no Fill/Cruise in 28 days!

Recommended Posts

This is silly, but I really need the advise. I was filled in May and was too tight. I have lost weight since then and am now eating like crazy. My next dr. appt. is on the 9th (two days) and I am not sure what to do. I have been at my current weight for at least three weeks now (bouncing btwn about 4 pounds). I know I need a slight! fill, but am not sure I want to do that before the cruise. Any advice out there. This is the first time I have ever been out of the country.

BTW... My husband gets banded one week before I leave.... He would not put it off and it's a girl cruise.

Pray for us!

I would get a small fill. I got a fill 2 weeks ago and I am back to normal now. I have restriction but I'm not too tight. You have 28 days to see how it feels and you can go in for an unfill before the cruise if it is too tight.

Good luck to you and your husband. I will keep you both in my prayers.

Jill

Shelly,

I agree with Jill. 28 days is a long enough way off that you could get a bit unfilled if you're still uncomfortable after a couple of weeks. Think how much you could get off before the cruise! Sounds like a great motivator to me!

Good luck to your hubby. Hope things go well!

I agree with the above, you'll have lots of time to unfill if you're too tight before you go .... although if you want to indulge a bit on your cruise I wouldn't. I know, I know, we're here for weightloss, but sometimes it's nice not to worry about only eating a tablespoon for supper on vacation! So to indulge or not to indulge - that is the question.

I would change your appointment until after the cruise. I'd hate to be out in the middle of the ocean with problems. You never you know you might lose weight with all the activities they have on there. I went on a cruise about 15 years ago and had a ball. Enjoy!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
