I'm gald you said that now I don't feel to bad about also wanting to keep my surgery private.

I am 32, from Pennsylvania and have been engaged for years. lol.

I work in the legal profession.

I have been banded for a year, and not until my recent fill has the weight been melting off. I have kept my surgery private with the exception of a few people, because I have found people to be so judgmental. People have noticed the weight loss, so I just blame it on weight watchers. lol.

I'm hoping to be swimsuit material by next summer

I live in Virginia

I am working on my Master's

I am married but separated (no kids) but i have two fluffy white doggies

I am getting banded 9/8

I was always a cutie on duty but when i went to college, i steadily gained 10-15 lbs a year and now I have seemed to forgotten who the old Shonda was, but apparently she is buried under fat (hehe), right now I'm a 22/24 and i would looooove to get back to my goal weight of 140 which for me is a 8/10

Good evening ladies:smile2:,

I figured I have been on here long enough without formally introducing myself. So here it goes...My name is Sarah and I from northern NJ (across the Water from manhattan.) I am single (have been for a while) with no kids. I am an analyst for a financial investment firm but I've want to go to school for my post-graduate degree.

I actually considered lap band about a year ago. However when I announced

my plan to my family and friends they were completely against it (especially my mom, sister and best friend) :sneaky:. They claimed that I would be throwing in the towel and were amazed that I would consider WLS (hello! been fat my whole life!) It wasn't until I had officially gained back ALL of the 100 lbs I had worked sooooooo hard to loose my senior year in college that I said "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!" I have been morbidly obese MY WHOLE LIFE. And in college became SUPER morbidly obese! (who comes up with these names anyway???) So now I have resolved and dedicated myself to this 1000% (no matter who is against it.) So much so that I have been unable to focus on my LSAT studies (and I really need a great score.) Which is why I would like to get banded asap.

But unfortunately I've had to switch surgeons for insurance purposes. Which landed me at the NYU WLS program. I've heard great things about all the dr.'s just seems to take forever to get an appointment (further prolonging my process :cursing: ). But I've learned to be patient and get things done the right which is why I'm trying to get as much information as possible. So I can avoid trial and error periods post-banding. I've always loved to exercise so I know I won't have a problem sticking to that. Dieting has always been my biggest obstacle (I'm natuarally drawn to junk food in excess.) But I've been preparing myself for life after the band by cooking healthy meals and making better food choices..

I really love this site, especially this forum! I'm even on here at work ya'll. LOL! Its been very helpful throughout all my stages so far. My surgery date with my previous surgeon was 9/17. So hopefully I can at least get to keep my "September Samauri" banner. I'll find out on 9/8 and let you all know. Wish me luck and good luck to you all as well!

Good afternoon Ladies,

Just found this forum within the lapbandtalk.com site and I am so glad I found y'all!

I'm 45 - a big haayyy to all my 40-something sistas out there. I joined this forum looking for support as well - I've been referred by my primary care doc, and have my nutritionist and psych appointments in about 2 weeks. I'm hoping for a surgery date before Christmas - my family (and personal) history with diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure is the main reason for the surgery. I investigated the full bypass, but the surgery scares me. I tend to get keloids, so the less surgery, the better!

I work at an Ivy-league university and am happily married (just celebrated 18 years of bliss). I have three children (his - 25 yr old son; mine - 24 yr old son just made me a grandma; ours - 17 1/2 yr old daughter).

You have all posted such motivational messages and photos - thank you so much - you have inspired this newbie!

I'll be sure to check in often as my approval (hopefully) comes in and during my journey. I want to lose 120 lbs - that would put me at 140 lbs, a weight I haven't seen since before I was 18! I'd love to be able to wear a swimsuit with pride - not a bikini because of the scarring, but definately a slim-fitting swimsuit (not a tent!).

Nice to be here...

Hello All,

My name is Meekie, 38 years old. I work as a secretary for the US gov't. I was banded 8/29/2008. I am currently living in Germany due to military. I have 3 wonderful sons ages 12,11, and 9. They are the main reasons I'm banded to keep up with them athletically. I coached my youngest son's soccer team for 2 seasons and found out it is something I enjoy. I want to do more of it but I don't want to let 298 lbs of me stop it. I contemplated for 2 years to have this surgery and I am sooooo glad I did. I am just home from the hospital today. Germans keep you 3-5 days. I begged my way out on day 4. I'm down 18 pounds since the pre-op liquid diet and my surgery. I'm finally 279 again. I'm still bigger than I was pregnant with my youngest son.

I told my co-workers and people around me here. I haven't told my family back in the States yet. I'm tired of being the biggest in the family and all the "fat" jokes. I'm tired of not being able to share clothes with my 2 sisters and mother. My family would not understand.

I have a black chihuahua named Sammie. I'm a pastor's wife and I love Jesus with all that is in me.

I want to start a tread with all the things we sisters want to do once we've lost the weight that we couldn't gracefully do with the weight.

Love you all,

Welcome D:

Good luck in your Quest for the band, it's great that you are taking control of yourself at a young age. Maybe this will spare you from all the weight related problems that comes with age.

Greetings from Chicago!

46 y/o

Married

Veterans Administration

Live in So. Suburbs & work in City

I'm self-pay and scheduled with Dr. G. Kirshenbaum - Aurora Colorado since his price is $6k lower than anything here. Even considered Mexico... I'm a bit nervous about how I'll handle fills.. if I'll fly there, or TRY to find someone here who won't charge $500+. That's one thing worrying me.

Anyway, I am so tired of all the diets I've tried and succeeded and gained back even more.

I am learning vital info reading your posts and am glad to join you here.

Am truly struggling with who to tell and not to tell. Not sure I can keep my big mouth shut once I start losing! When I like something... I talk about. Of course my hubby knows, now I've told my sisters and brothers. Put in for vacation at work instead of sick leave. My manager is dead set against the idea - we had a very brief talk about it when she first started working with me. I work with a team of 5 very, very athletic individuals (including her) and I think they wouldn't understand. I'm two seconds from saying, so what. We will see!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
