Hey everyone, I was banded on June 10 and am trying not to get to concerned about it but my weight is at a complete stand still. I have in total lost 28 pounds, thats 18 during pre-op and 10 since surgery. I will get my first fill on July 21 and can't wait. I don't feel much restriction but am still trying to eat small meals and I'm not snacking. Is it possible to still be in starvation mode and the body is holding on to what it has? I still have not started exercising which I'm sure will help. Any advice to help me move this along will help.:biggrin2:

I was banded May 15th and I had the same thing happen -- lost a lot on pre-op and right after surgery, then it stalled for what seemed like forever. It seems to be a common thing right after your body has lost a lot of weight pretty quickly, for it to hold on to the weight for a little while. I went back and forth lowering my calories, then raising them because I thought maybe I'd gone into starvation mode...... it got pretty frustrating. I've had 3 fills and I still don't have restriction, don't have to chew well, can eat anything (except a big restaurant size meal).... but I've been keeping track of my calories, etc. on TheDailyPlate and it really hasn't been that hard to make healthy choices so I feel like the band must be helping me one way or the other.

The scale seems to be moving again now..... I decided to start being a little more careful about the carbs so maybe that helped.

I think what you're going through is normal, just keep making those healthy choices and it will all fall into place (no pun intended!)

Hey i was banded jun 10th also. your weight loss is doing great.

how many calories are you consuming? you should be aiming for 800-1000 any less and then yes you can go in starvation mode. but for a couple weeks its temporary.

are you still on mushies? once you start normal food you can start making sure you get adaquate calories.

ive exercised in the pool because its in the back yard... but i need to start walking myself. but i just now got to eating better... i found myself in 300-400 calories during liquids and it took me 2 weeks to recover..i was in starvation mode with out feeling hungry.

hope you are doing good

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that until you have a fill (or several), the band isn't doing anything for you. So right now, you're losing weight due to dieting, not due to the band. When the fills make the band work for you, then things should happen.

Mickey is right: you have no restriction now and getting a fill will probably help. My doc told me that not losing weight before your first fill is normal.

Every body is different. Here's how it works for me (which will be different for you): my body holds on to Fluid like a camel in the Sahara. I can kill myself at the gym and eat next to nothing and plateau for a couple of weeks. All of a sudden, I'll start peeing like crazy one day and weigh 3 or 4 pounds less the next.

Your fat cells are filled with Fluid. Until they decide to release the fluid for whatever reason, you just have to wait it out. It will come off, but I have learned that my body does not work according to the 3500 calories= 1 pound program. It just doesn't and it probably never will. It's hard to accept, but it's a fact.

Hang in there and keep doing what you know you should. GOOD LUCK!

I guess im just the odd ball because since day of surgery i get satisfied on just my measured out meals.

I was told that you have a little restriction after surgery...its after you start to lose weight and your stomach shrinks then, as your stomach gets smaller the band needs to be tightened...but i didnt really research a whole lot.. i was offered the surgery idea from my transplant team in april and banded in june so i never had much time to think about how it all works.. it happened so fast.

who knows i may be starving tomorrow...they did say at some point i would start being hungry in between meals and that is when i would get a fill.

so for now i am just following the instructions from the dietition.

good luck to all

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
