OK, It's time for me to fess up. I drink when I eat.

I started doing it when I wasn't quite restricted enough and got hungry an hour after I ate. So, I learned that if I took little sips of Water throught my meal- big gulps only got stuff stuck- that I could eat a little more and I wouldn't be hungry so soon. Now that I'm at a good level of restriction, I still drink! I don't do it when I eat at home, but when I'm out at a restaurant I sip sip sip. DUH!!!!!

So, today is the day I'm going to go cold turkey from drinking with meals. I am going to ask the waitress to take my water away. I will not drink with meals!

The few times that I drank when I ate just gave me a terrible PB attack so now I am afraid of drinking when eating. Also I notice that lemonade makes me PB even when I don't eat, does anyone notice that certain drinks makes them PB more than others?

Girl, I thought it was something awful...you can handle this! Think of all the other more difficult things you have experienced in the past months and don't TELL me you can't deal with this little problem.

Quit drinkng with your meals! There.

Now update us about the horses on your NSV Dream Come True thread...

Thanks everyone for the "you can do it's"!!! I shouldn't give the secret away to all of those who are wondering how to drink without PBing. But, if you really want to know, and I take no responsibility for those that abuse this information, you sip the Water. A little tiny bit, a few times, and wooosh...the food goes right through. But shhh, don't tell anyone!

My DH has the same habit of drinking while eating. It was pretty funny, when he was bringing me back to my exile after I was banded, we stopped for some Breakfast, and he didn't order a drink! I thought that was interesting...

I generally have a sip of Water of two after I eat certain foods just to wash out my mouth and clear my throat. The not drinking while eating was a really difficult habit for me to break too.

I confess, too. I don't drink as much Water with my meals as I used to, but I often sip -- and not just a little. Maybe I should be ashamed of this bad habit, but I'm not! I figure I've managed to lose 65 lbs. without losing my sanity, so a little water ain't gonna kill me. BTW, I don't drink sodas or anything caffeinated or alcoholic -- but those habits predate my band. I know there are a lot of people who can't lose weight without scrupulously adhering to the bandster rules, but for those of us who are less than perfect (and you know who you are), it's good to know that success is still possible.

Oh my gosh, if I drank anything while eating or even right before eating, I'd have the monster pb attack. I just by accident picked up a bottle of Water and took a big gulp after having eaten something small, I thought I was gonna throw up or pass out. I know Betty drinks right up until she eats with no problem, but I can't even do that.

Someone remind me. Why are we not supposed to drink when we eat?

I was banded 3 weeks ago and I am able to drink & eat, but have not had a fill yet. I too take little sips. But, I can't remember why I'm not supposed to? Anyone?

Drinking with meals pushes the food through the band and you will be hungry again quicker. The goal is to keep your pouch full for as long as possible and drinking with meals defeats that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
