Just over 2 weeks until surgery! YOWZA!

Recommended Posts

Well, after months of research, the evals, the sleep study, meeting with the nutritionist, getting approval, moving the date around... My date is set for July 23rd. The reality is really hitting me now!

I've got the usual combo of excitement and fears...

Irrational fear of anesthesia awareness, worried about the pain afterward too, although I know that it's just for a couple of days and the pain meds will help with that.

Questions for those of you who have done it... Did you wake up with the breathing tube still in? Were you nauseated after the surgery? What was the most difficult part of the surgery for you? What did you think was going to be a bigger deal than it was?

Thanks, all!!!

Nick

Hi Nick,

I just had surgery last week (July 2) and I am doing well. I had the same excitement and fears as you are currently experiencing. My biggest fear was that I was not going to wake up from surgery. Once I did wake up, and realized I was alive, I felt pretty good. They took out the breathing tube while I was still asleep, so I never really knew it was there. I did not have any nausea at all and have not had any since the surgery. Most difficult part of surgery was the gas pain and soreness. I was very sore after surgery, and continue to have some soreness, but today I feel pretty darn good. I will be going back to work tomorrow. I am happy with my decision to have the lapband surgery. Good luck with your surgery and your new journey!

Hi Nick ,

I was really nervous about being put under too. The nurses told me its very very common to be nervous about that. I was really glad they gave me an anti-nausea shot just before i got wheeled into surgery. I woke up and had NO nausea feeling at ALL! I was thrilled. Ask about that when you go in. also, you never remember them removing the breathing tube, but expect a little bit of a sore throat that day.

I had a hard time sleeping the first couple nights because of the pain. (MOSTLY the PORT-area incision). But, every night was better than the last and after about 3 days I was able to sleep through the night without waking up in pain. OF COURSE, this is different for everyone. Everyone has different pain thresholds. It was a little more intense than I was expecting, so prepare yourself for the worst.. get your pain med prescriptions filled before hand.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!:tt1:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
