Marissa's Mom 1 Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) My husband and I are currently looking into purchasing a couple of bikes. I currently weigh 359 and he is 313. We are needing to purchase sturdy bikes for obvisious reasons but do not want to go broke doing it. Any suggestions would be helpful and very appreciated. Thank you, Amy Edited July 7, 2008 by Marissa's Mom
areellady 1 Posted July 7, 2008 GO to your local bike shop and have them help you. Do not be embarrassed about going in there, the people who work there are all about getting people out riding. A sport comfort bike is a good bike to start with. You sit more upright and it has a big comfy seat. Try that and see what you think. Good luck!!
DaisyMay 1 Posted July 11, 2008 My husband bought me a Townie 21 cruiser for Mother's Day two years ago and I love it. Go to e l e c t r a. It is REALLY comfortable. I started riding on a mountain bike (two different ones) and had lots of problems that I think were weight-related. My rear never adjusted to the seat and my back and arms ached constantly when we rode and for days after. I'm sure there are lots of people on here who do great with mountain bikes but the cruiser works MUCH better for me. You sit up much straighter and there is less pressure on the arms and the back - and no problems with the rear soreness after the first couple of rides in the spring. My husband (who is a very big guy - 320 lbs - but much higher proportion of muscle to fat than me) rides a nice big mountain bike and prefers that. I'll stick with the cruiser. I love my baby blue Townie!
