Can get a flat belly but not as expected

Recommended Posts

I started my lapband journey in Dec 2007 and have lost close to 80 pounds. I am a male that weighed 284 and this morning I am back around 215 with what feels like no fill. Anyway my latest discovery is that I am not losing the weight around the belly at the same speed that I am losing weight/muscles elsewhere. It never dawned on me that I could still have flab around the belly after hitting my goal weight. My point is that if I continue to lose weight and get a flat belly I will have no arms or legs. Lol

My wife who is in much better shape has started using P90X which is a 90 day fitness program. Those night owls out there have surely seen the info commercials that run in the early morning hours. I have decided that once I get my fill on July 15th I will start that regimen. It is for people that are in great shape and want to get ripped. I am not that guy but if I shoot for the moon and miss I still land amongst the stars. I really want to look at my belly and say it is loose skin and it can not be fixed but I haven’t really tried to build muscle. I play Vball and Basketball 2 or 3 times a week but never weight trained. We will see how it works out. I will do this for 90 days then I promise that I will be happy with the outcome regardless. I have to let this go and move on with life regardless. The end of 90 days will be a vacation cruise and really close to my 1 year mark. Here goes nothing.

You should definitely be trying to build or maintain your muscle during "losing" -- you'll have lots of extra skin if you don't -- more than likely there'd be loose skin with such a big weight loss anyway - but w/out weight training it will be even more -- it helps your body work for itself and burn calories even when you're not exercising.

If the stomach is still fat & not loose skin - have patience - it will eventually fall off.

Good Luck!

Tony Horton is amazing.

I wouldn't recomend jumping right in to P90X though... have you thought about just doing his regular P90 program? It gives you a great foundation and will prep you for the X so you can be most successful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
