I've lost 42lbs so far -- 15lbs before surgery. I feel so amazing. The last week... I've lost a pound a day, for a total of about 6lbs. I know it wont last for long, but I am just so psyched that it's happened now. I need to add in exercise soon or I may plateau for good.

You Go Girl! Isn't it fun!? Yes, it will slow down as you go along and you will have to work with your band BUT you will also find this a LOT easier than all those other times when you tried to do it without the band. There is nothing like success to motivate us to do more. The band will also curb your appetite and cravings so that you can handle them much better/easier than before. Nevertheless -- you will still have work to do --just more manageable. Stick with this board because you will learn a lot and make good connections. You will feel "held" in your journey as you travel the road with us. I wish you the very very best.

That is incredible!! I'm so happy for you!! I love hearing success stories like yours ;o) I am scheduled to be banded next Monday and I'm very excited. Can you tell me about your post-op experience? How long did you have swelling for, gas, etc? Basically, how long was it before you felt normal again.

Thank you,

Jane

Bandster Gal,

I too love my band!!!! I am down 76 pounds!!! 30 before surgery (March 24th) and 46 pounds since.

This is the best thing I have ever done for myself (and my family). I have finally taken charge of my life with the help of the band. Yes, I said help from the band. I am responsible for what goes into my mouth and the band is simply a reminder for me.

Best of Luck to you!!

Good for you Bandster Girl!

Reading your message gave me hope. I had my surgery on June 10, 2008 and lost 15 lbs in eight days. Then when I switched from full liquid diet to purees, I gained some Water weight, but quickly lost it in three days.

What does your daily meal plan consist of now? Curious to know...doing this alone and need some tips.

Thanks & Keep up the good work!

This is pretty typical:

Breakfast: cup of cottage cheese

Lunch: Yogurt cup, cup of mixed fruit

Dinner: Fish fillet (like Flounder or Tilapia) and cup of cooked veggies (like carrots)

Snack: sugar-free popsicles

My best advice, don't slack before you get real restriction. Fake it till you make it. Also, I pack all my day's meals into one lunch box and don't eat anything else. Preparation is the key for me.

I had bad gas and pain for 4 days... the worst. I wanted to hurt someone. By day 10, everything was better... my mood was better.. by 2 weeks out, it was like nothing ever happened. But I have to tell you... the first 4 days sucked (feelings or regret are very normal at that time)... maybe I'm just a big baby. :tt1: lol

You probably need to calculate how much protien you are getting for a day or two. You will need at least 50-60 grams of Protein. You will lose some hair and muscle mass if you do not get enought Protein.< /p>

If you are getting enough, then do not worry about it. If you are not, add some. We want you to be healthy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
