Help: Florida Gal needs advice

Recommended Posts

:confused2: Hi. I recently had lapband surgery (June 16) and lost 16 lbs within the first week. A week after surgery, I went for my follow up appt and the doc put me on mushies. After a week of mushies...I began to eat meats (tuna & chicken) and veggies. I have done fine...no nausea or anything. My tenderness around the incisions is getting better but I have noticed a small bubble or knot just under the left side of my ribs. It hurts to laugh, cough, or take a deep breath. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Is it your port?? That sounds like where my port is. I am almost 2 months out and still have occasional pain there, but I have heard that it goes on for some time as it is attached to a muscle... Hope this helps you!!

I ate 3 onion rings and a chicken wing, fried; too much breading says the Dr. and got a horrible pain in the left side near the port. I had to lie on my right side until it subsided. I hope this helps.

Yes--your port is going to be tender for a while. Then it will subside and just when you think the discomfort is gone you will suddenly have increased discomfort. It can scare you because you'll think you pulled something. It's GAS in your stomach that is pushing on the weakest muscle area---your healing port. You may also get an increase in tenderness there as you begin exercise. It will also heal up and the tenderness will go aways. If you get the tenderness -- make sure you are drinking a lot of Water -- because that moves things along and prevents gas.

Thanks for the info. I know I haven't been taking in as much Water as I should. It is so hard to drink that much. Good luck to all of you on your weight goals.

Cool another Floridian! There seems to be a group of us who are getting to be friends over on the thread called Spring Hill Florida. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/introductions/66476-spring-hill-fl.html#post914919

Come join us.

I understand there is a Florida Forum Florida Local Lap-Band Support - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

and I 'd love to see it get stronger as they don't seem to post over there much lately.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
