liquid diet- mushies diet questions

Recommended Posts

You should receive a schedule of your "diet" from before surgery through the fill. I had 3 days of Clear liquids, 4 days of creamed type Soups and Protein supplements, 1-2 weeks of mushies, and then 3-4 you can start eating moist meats. After 4 weeks, it is pretty much what your stomach can tolerate. When trying a new food, I start out with just a small bit and will increase it if there is no problem.

As far as the Protein, it is very hard to get. The best products are concentrated whey type protein. One is called IDS New Whey Liquid Protein - 42gm of protein in a 3.1 ounce vial. You can buy them in boxes of 12. There is also ProSlam 45 which it also in a 3.1 ounce vial. These are a good way to get your protein without drinking a whole glass. They come in fruit punch, orange, grape, peach, etc. I also have the whey protein that I mix with milk. Unfortunately, I have to drink 8 ounces to get 25gm and I can't do that in one sitting. I am sure there are other products out there. The vials are reasonably priced compared to other bariatric products. In fact, I buy them at a health, excercise and sport shop online.

Lots of luck.

I buy Protein products that my therapist turned me on to. I go to Home and go to a link at the bottom of her page. It links me to a store when they have great tasting foods - most of which a "mushy". I love the Nacho Pasta and the Vegetable Beef and Pasta. There are great bars when you're ready to eat them. There's infor on getting 10% at her website. I'll be glad to tell you the items I like the best if you want. I also like the Spuritein drinks. I get them at the local natural food store. There are so many different flavors. The directions say to mix with skim milk but I just mix it with cold Water and some ice in a blender. I might add a bit of splenda. I've been stuck in my weight loss but I'm getting serious again about what I can and cannot eat. No more ICE CREAM!

Hey Cindylew,

I've got to look at the site you're talking about here and in your answer to me. What's the address again?

There are still plenty of times I revert to "mushies". I make my salmon, tuna and rarely, chicken salad, in my food processor so that it's like a pate or creamy. Much easier to eat. Tuna salad really gets stuck and hurts- too dry if not pulverized. And egg salad is good also.

The meat I've had has been ground beef- I think of it as meat's mushy version. I havent' had Pasta at all. I"m going to try rice noodles because I want to make Pad Thai. I have a feeling it won't go down well, but I want to try.

MUSHIES RULE!!!!!

ELAINE- I had three weeks of liquids after banding, then a week of mushie/soft and then when I hit week five I could supposably eat regular foods, but I was on mushies at least a week longer. meat is the toughest to eat. I haven't even felt like having steak. I've stewed veal with veggies, making the veal so soft it was easy to eat.

But you'll have your own schedule, and while it may feel like you want to push ahead and eat everything, it's infinitely better to take your time and really really really let your body heal and the swelling around the stomach go down. It's a natural time to really lose as well.

Good luck.

Very strange, it came out differently again. Maybe you're not suppose to post web sites. try 3w womeninmotion with net after it.

I tried it- thanks for the "cryptic" way of wording it....but when I go there it tells me the site is closed and for sale. HAH. Guess that's that. I'll try again. Maybe I did something. I appreciate the effort. Thanks.

Found it. I had put in women instead of woman. You had it both ways. I found the original email. YAY. Now I'm going to go look.

Take care and thanks.

Full liquids for a full 7 days after surgery. I'm enjoying the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powders. I put it in skim milk for a shake, or low fat yogurt. I can have cream Soups but haven't tried that yet. The Unjury chocolate is good, and the unflavored goes into my Special K2o flavored Water.

This morning I tossed in a large spoon of PB2 (dehydrated Peanut Butter powder) into a vanilla Unjury Protein packet and skim milk, it's really very good. I'm having a hard time making it last the required 1 hour to drink....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
