accepted to kaisers wls class..still confused.

Recommended Posts

I went to the orientation for the WLS at Kaiser and I got accepted to one of the spots for there 24week class, starting on the 11th.. Its along time to wait(for the surgery) but I don't really mind. I think that I'm the type of person that can benefit from the classes.

During the Orientation the doctor basically said that he didn't recommend the traditional gastric bypass but then went on to say that he preferred the sleeve over the band.. but Ive seen some video's of the surgery and it seems much more intensive.

On the other side of the scale is the chance that a band might slip or that the fills cost so much.. I'm very confused about what way to go... I guess I have the 6 months to decide..

Hi Miranda,

I am going to my PCP next Tuesday to get my referral to the weight classes and the band. When I spoke to them they told me I could double up classes in one day so it would only be three months.

Hope this helps.... What Kaiser are you going to? I go to Fontana.

Im going to one in riverside.. one of the Kaiser branches.

They wont let me do that because they want each class to work together as a group (so they say) but they also said that those that make good progress might get fast tracked..so we shall see..

I just hope that they give me more details about everything.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
