This is my 1st post. My insurance has approved me for surgery. I just had some tests done a few days ago to see if my body is ready for surgery. As soon as Dr. Woodman (my surgeon in Memphis, TN) gets the results (hopefully they will be good), I will be scheduled for an appointment with him and his staff. Then, it's preop work-up and "the beginning of my new life!"

After completing the several tests last week, I realized that this is really going to happen for me. That day I started eating more sensibly and have also started a treadmill program. I feel like this is my part of the commitment to a life that is being offered to me through LapBand surgery.

I'm probably older than most here. I turned 63 today.

Betty

Thank you. And it's nice to know that there is someone else in my age bracket. As far as my moniker is concerned, I'm an advocate for animals rights. We foster dogs and have adopted 6 (so far!)

Hi! This is my second post ever. I am 56 and will be banded this coming Friday. I am all set to go. It took me 14 months to get approval from my insurance company. I wish I had started all this a lot sooner. Good luck.

Congrats you two and welcome to the group!!

And, I love animals too and I'm all about the spaying and neutering! I wish more people did it... and don't get me started on animal breeders. lol.

Anyway, I wish you all the best on your lap band journey. It really has been a wonderful experience for me! and I hope it will be for you too.

Thanks for your GREAT post. Where did you get the "train"? As far as the breeding is concerned, I think between Oprah Winfrey and her show on puppy mills and local and national organizations are taking an aggressive stance on animal rights issues and are making a difference.

Betty Dilley (spayneuter2008) P.S. Is there anywhere I can read about your experience with LapBand?

I don't really keep a blog persay, but I post on my monthly group a lot and if you have any questions at all, you can right click my name and send me a personal email. This banded journey has been great for me, but a large part of it is staying on this forum even after being banded. Many come here to find out answers, which is fine, but then they leave when they feel they dont' need the support anymore. Staying on this group is what keeps me going and going and staying on plan. Right now, at perfect restriction things are going great, but in the beginning, before I got my fills and I could still eat whatever I wanted was the hardest part. You have to be strong, follow a good diet plan (I followed South Beach) and make sure to get your fills, etc. My whole life was about this band for several months.. I ate it.. drank it and slept it... I wanted to know everything I could about it.. I researched the heck out of it..the good and the bad.. I lived on this forum..

My doctor said I didn't need to lose any weight for surgery, but not to gain any either. I have been eating only Protein and fruits and vegetables, and have not been drinking with meals, but have been drinking a lot between meals. I still eat a lot, but am trying to eat the correct things. I also have sugar-free, fat-free treats (like ice cream and pudding and SF chocolate syrup) -- I hope that's okay. I am treadmilling 30 minutes about 3 times a week and getting up to 3 mph. I have an appt. with my nutritionist to go grocery shopping with me on July 30 (my surgery is Aug. 12) so I'll be prepared.

I was supposed to go out with a group of women who regularly goes out for dinner when it's someone's birthday, and we have plans on, of all dates, Aug. 12th, so I am going to have to think of an excuse, because I haven't told anyone about my plans for LapBand surgery except my husband. I will talk about it freely afterwards, but don't want to discuss it prior to Aug. 12th.

Gee, it feels good to get this all out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
