And I mean ITCHING!!!! I am going nuts over there, I can not stop itching around my incisions! I mean it's really bad no kididng I called the on call nurse and he told me to use a triple anti-biotic cream but that DOES NOT HELP with the itching!!! What could this be???? The pharmacist said I could have had an allergic reaction to the tape since it's itches only where the take was but it's really bad and I know I have said it many times in this small post but anyone have any ideas maybe topical benedryl?????

Hi Slinderella! I had the same problem. The doctor's office gave me hydrocortizone but that didn't do much for me. I did find Benedryl extra strength anti itch gel that worked WONDERS. Its for poison oak, sumac etc but I found it was fabulous for the itchy welts I had around my incisions. Check with your doctor first but you're probably just allergic to the glue or bandage adhesive. Its fairly common from what I've seen (though I'm no expert). Put the gel around the incisions but not directly on them. Good Luck!

You can also take oral benadryl, its helps a lot. You may be allergic to tegaderm or the tape they used. I was after my c-section and I know it takes about 3-4 days for the itching to go away. Sorry you are so misable right now.

Welcome to my world. I know just how you feel because I am in the same misery!!!

The genral concensus is to use Benadryl cream. I did not have any, so I have been using Hydrocortisone cream. I have also been using an after sun/aloe vera type gel with lidocaine in it. It gives me a couple of minutes of relief before it starts up again.

Just hoping yours doesn't spread like mine has.

Well of course my spreaded to ALL my incisions so that is why I figure that I muxt be allergic to something like the tape or something. I used Bebedryl cream anti-itch and it has worked, over night I didn't itch once. Let's just hope it stay that way I was in heck the frist few days. Thanks everyone!

Lucky you! I'm so damn itchy right now! I broke out in a rash from the tape, and it welted and everything. Had to take that off, and then used another tape on two of the four incisions. Right now, I can't sleep because I'm so damn itchy, I want to cry! I'm overseas, so of course my medicine cabinet is not stocked with the right medication. Grrr!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
