emotional eater needs a mentor/anyone willing?

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on June 9th. I have lost 30 lbs so far. I felt great, I was not hungry and already got off 3 of my medications. Problem-I have been so hungry since starting puree. Dr. said I could start regular but I feel like I can eat a ton and am still hungry. Last two days have been eating sugar, sugar, carbs. I feel like I am spiraling out of control. It is too early for this. I would like to find someone to mentor me who has been through this and is an emotional eater/sugar carb addict. Is there anyone out there willing to help me?? I would really appreciate it. I hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks Alot,

Kim:smile2:

As I once told my doctor..its not that Im always hungry and have to eat..its that something goes right or wrong in my world and I cope with food!

Hi Kim- My names Tiffaney and you are not alone! lol I found out that I had to start new habits to replace the old ones. So now when I get upset I got for a walk..instead of relying on the sugar rush, I get the endorphins from exercise..even if its a 5 minute walk, it helps. Last Thanksgiving I got into several fights with my family and ended up leaving for a walk about 7 times..lol but on the plus side I wasnt miserable from over eating. Also you can try things like crystal light w splenda..thats saved me alot, Ill make it into like a real sweet lemonade. Ive also used Protein shakes. My doctor is anti-Protein Shakes but weve agreed that it beats me eating that tub of ice cream! I will blend them and freeze them..O and of course smoothies. They help me get in my fruit and they can replace something not quite as good. Basically the key is to get away from what you used to do

heres my email..email me whenever you need to talk about this ok?! Im not sure what the deal is with the mentoring thing, I dont 100% get it, but I did go through what you are and am willing to help you

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
