Hi, I am new to this forum. I will be done with my 6 months worth of doctor visits for weight loss at the end of July (Insurance requires this before they will think about aproving the surgery) Any way , I like to enjoy a few beers here and there and I have heard that I should go cold turkey and not drink at all for 2 months before the surgery. Is this true? Do some surgeons require this while others do not?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey Jack,

Im very glad that you havnt drank in such a long time. That is really great. Im sure you are really loving life now.

My question is: Did your surgeon allow you to drink your beer right up to the day before surgery?

Thanks,

Sue:shades_smile:

I had my last beer two weeks before surgery.

I did have a one week liquid diet before surgery.

Now that it's hot, I miss a cold beer.......but I am loving the way I look and feel, so it's sooooooo totally worth it!

You know drinking beer to u is prob. like soda pop was for me... at first i couldn't ever imagine not drinking pop, but i haven't had it since 2-weeks before banding which was the beg. of may and i haven't had a sip, or even a thought of drinking it and i'm cool.... U just have to have a made up mind to want to change bad behavior whatever that may be.... But one thing i do know is, is that beer and other liquor's add weight to u... i has a lot of carbs in it, and it will make it harder to loose weight... that is one bad factor but ultimately u have to make the choice for u...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
