JanV 0 Posted July 4, 2008 Hi everyone - I am 57 and need to loose 100 plus lbs. I am going to the seminar next week and have been looking at these posts and they are very helpful. From what I have learned here my insurance will not be very helpful (Bl Cross - Bl Shield of Illinois). I also read here that some drs. do not feel it is worthwhile for people of my age. I guess I am also questioning myself :confused2: - I obviously have not gained all of this weight by eating only when I am hungry - I hope someone who is like me with eating can tell me if this really takes away the desire to eat. Hoping to hear from you! Thanks so much!
wishin4 0 Posted July 4, 2008 Hi Jan, No you aren't too old to have this done. I was banded in March and I am 60. I am only sorry I didn't learn about this procedure years ago so I wouldn't have had to lose the weight so many times. It is the best decision I have ever made. However, it doesn't take away the desire to eat. It is mearly a tool to help you not eat so much. My biggest problem was Portion Control and that is not an issue anymore. Good luck to you and keep us posted as to how things go. You'll find the people on this board very helpful and friendly.
ssflbelle 829 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi Jan I have not had the surgery yet but will be meeting with my Dr on July 22nd. I am 52 years old and also live in Florida in Palm Beach County- South East Florida. Where are you located? I also am hoping it take away the desire to eat, especially at night. During the day I am fine but this night binging is really bad.

ArizonaBelle 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Hi Jan, Don't waste your time with BlueCross/BShield! I wasted a year with them jumping through the hoops. I researched Mexico and I am going for it, Aug.29. When I found out that several nurses from the hospital where my daughter works in the western US had gone there for the lapband, that is what finally convinced me to do it. Good Luck!!
