What question do you hate the most...

Recommended Posts

What question do you hate the most when you talk about your band with people. I have a few that I hate...especially when the person I'm talking to is thin. But here's the one I hate the most...

Are you going to take your band out when you lose all of your weight?

I give them a quick No! :-)

Someone at work said the same thing to me in those same words my reply was the same NO that is the purpose of the band to lose weight and keep it off why would I put it in in the first place I think the less people that know the less you have to deal with comments I'm so sick of it.

I've just started telling people about my band now that I am at a somewhat normal weight, but I am very selective about the people I tell. My friend who had bypass done has told me that I am wrong for not telling people. That I should be proud of what I've done. But to me it is such a persoan decision. It is to the point where I don't even want to go out and eat with her. Everytime we go out to eat, she tells the waiter "we've had fat girl surgery, we can't eat much." Their response is usually.."umm, ok." I just want to crawl under the table.

You are right up to a point Cambron. It is a personal decision whether to tell or not. But unfortunately there comes a point where it isn't our decision anymore. Like when you tell one person and they tell a couple of people, etcetera.

:D I wasn't going to tell everybody at my work; I had only origianlly told a couple of people, but one of the women sent an e-mail to our entire group telling them I was fine after my surgery. Oops! I think half my college knows now.

But I don't have any heartburn when people ask about the band. There are so many things I don't know about other topics that I figure it's only fair that people want to educate themselves about a topic that I'm somewhat an expert in. (only because I've got the band.)

lol not to laugh but the whole not telling anyone sounds like being gay and not coming out...dont be afraid just be proud. I plan on telling my friends but not that many. If they ask i'll tell them, but i won't brag...when and if i get the surgery...

I think I get aggivated the most with the "How much have you lost" and then the follow-up. "That's it." I have not told many people, I probably won't. I have been burned by a few I have told. :D

the few that I told after the surgery have said "are you okay?" They were thinking of what can happen to some RNY patients and thought I might be having similar issues. Nope -- 5 months out and down 71 lbs with no problems.

I've told my family (no extended family) and a couple of friends. I was talking to one of my friends when someone overheard. He asked why I was going into surgery and I told him. He was very supportive. I think I'm not going to advertise my band to strangers but I will tell if I'm asked.

Do you think this is a good plan?

I love explaining to people that the band does not alter my digestive system.

I'm with Cambron though....I dont' know why that question bugs me..."So when you lose your weight do you have it taken out?" But I always tell myself they are just trying to understand.

i dont get any comments... its the "watching" that bugs me... i can see them monitoring my eating and just... low level observation about the quantity of my intake.

bugs me.

I have told EVERYONE about my band. I do hate the "How much have you lost?" question. It seems I get it all the time and they always say "Oh, that's good" but you know they think I should be losing it faster. I then have to explain that I didn't have bypass so my weight loss is slower but BETTER!!!

sometime I just don't know when to keep my BIG mouth shut!! I am VERY PROUD of my band and myself so it shouldn't matter what others think, but it does.

Girl I'm right there with you on that one. I was at work the other day and one of the girls that I was eating with looked at my plate and said how much of that could you eat? I wanted to say well give me a minute and I'll measure it out for you!!! UH!!! I don't know I ate till I was full!

Also the people that every time you see them ... even if its only been 3 days since they saw you last ask how much have you lost since I saw you last?

Americans are weight-obsessed, so it's no surprise that people jump all over us with questions when they find out one of us is banded. For newbies, check out "My Secret Lapband" at http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=3061. People posted preferences from totally secret to totally open, and everything in between.

I'm more open about my band than when I wrote my first post in the "Secret" thread, but I still don't tell everyone. Most questions don't bother me, except for those that imply that the band is a magic cure that requires no work -- and even those questions are usually raised out of ignorance. As H.L. Mencken said, "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

I have told everyone about my band... but I really havent seen any of them since I was banded.. But my mom does watch me eat and almost every bite she tells me be careful, and one time i patted my chest cuz i felt a burp coming up and she had a fit.. "oh my gosh are you okay do you need anything, eat slower, whats going on" Ugh mom I just needed to burp!!!! LOL I think im really going to hate people asking me how much I have lost all the time.. thats the one im really dreading...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
