told to wait another 6 weeks for fill...

Recommended Posts

So i was banded may 21st 2008 and went in for another check up today and i was thinking my 1st fill. NOPE!! The dietitian thinks im ready but the doc says im still losing weight and im eating between 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food and he is happy with it. Anyone else have this happen? And im guessing since im still losing and able to controll myself most times i should not worry right?

49lbs lost since march when i started. 23lbs before band rest after the banding on may 21st.

My Dr. doesn't go by the weight that you are losing in the beginning. He scheduled the fill for six weeks out and said that he will continue to give them every several weeks until I am at goal. You are doing great! I was banded a week before you and haven't lost as much as you. If you are really hungry then I would question it but if you are able to manage what you are consuming then good for you!

I was banded 5/28/2008 have lost 35lbs and am doing well eating 3 times a day in limited amounts (1 cup max). Based on that the surgeon said no fill which I am fine with. He said if I lose <8 lbs a month he will fill or if I start to have trouble with hunger he would fill. I know people say without a fill you have no restriction but for me "something" is very different. I have never been able to maintain an intake of 800-1000cals a day so easily. So for now I am riding the wave and enjoying it. For me this journey is about making it my last weight loss journey and I will end up with weight loss maintenance...up till now a very elusive goal for me.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Typically the surgeon does a fill if a. you are not losing, b. you are eating too much or c. you are hungry more often. 1/2 cup is about right with good restriction. If you are eating up to 1 cup and losing you are very fortunate. I would monitor your weight loss and hunger moving forward. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
