Banded on June 25th and have a ? about shoulder pain.

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I had my surgery on June 25th and I am doing well. The only problem I have now is pain in my left shoulder. I think it may be the gas still but since I'm 8 days out I'm beginning to worry. Any words of advice? If it continues to hurt like this, I'm going to put a call back into the Dr.

I have read here about people having serious problems we mistook for pain. When in doubt, call your doc.

With that said, I was also banded on the 25th and thought I was over the hump until yesterday when I started having sharp pains off and on in my side. I don't feel that it is anything serious but maybe we still have some pains left to go yet.

I was banded on the 25th as well and I still have left shoulder pain. Maybe not as often, but its definitely still there. I asked my doctor about it yesterday. I wanted to know when it would go away. His answer - "Eventually." That helped.

Almost everybody has that same pain I think. Mine went away after about 2 weeks. But I notice that it even a month post op it comes back every once in a while out the blue. Really weird...

I had the shoulder pain for about 2 weeks following my 6/9 surgery. It ended abruptly, thank goodness!

Glad I found this post. I was banded 2 days ago and today the pain in my left shoulder started and wow is it painful. Other than that I feel fine. Pain is minimal, liquid phase isn't too bad, Iam not missing food like I thought I would. Its the pain in my left shoulder. OUCH. When they called to check on me today I informed them of the pain and they said it would subside.

Banded 7-2-08

7 1/2 lbs lost!!!!!!!

I don't want to scare anyone but my brother-in-law had his appendix removed two months ago. It was done like a lapband (laproscopicly). He still has the shoulder pain couple times a day.

It says in my booklet the bariatric center gave me that the pain can stay 6-12 months. So anyways, Iasked about the 6-12 months and they said they had people with the pain for that long. But usually at the most a onth or two then the pain goes down to a mear annoyance level.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
