Just wanted to pop in here and ease your mind a little. From what I have read a slip does not necessarily hurt. The swallow should show the placement of the band, and how much is going thru the band. If it looks unusual the doctor may order an EGD. My doctor wants the EGD done every year anyway, so I have mine this week.

I know it is not easy to do... but don't worry until they tell you there is something to worry about. :tt1:

The EGD will allow the doctor to look inside your tummy to see if everything is ok. I had one last year, and it was no big deal. They stick a small camera down your throat (while you are asleep) and then they look around. If they see anything wrong with the placement or an erosion they will call the lapband dr to come fix things. At least that is what I was told. I have mine tomorrow so I will let you know if I find out anything different.

For me my pouch dilation and/or slight slip, (they are similar) came on gradually I think from being too tight. I had some reflux each night and would chew a tums or 2, also when I was very tight I would throw up 1 or 2 times a week. After a year or so my restriction was decreasing and I was hungrier...also unable to get to a good fill level, going from too tight to too loose with only a .25 cc change. Good luck, the upper gi will let you know and if you have dilation you should be unfilled and wait to see if it corrects itself. Mine did some, but not enough to correct the problem according to the surgeon. Now he wants to do a revision on my band.

I am 7 months out from sugery, last fill was 5/10/2008, I had 7cc's in a 10cc band. No problems until week before last. Had a round of awful reflux (never before), was so tight feeling for 1 1/2 days I could barely keep anything down, couldn't sleep lying down, all came up. Finally cleared up and back to normal after the day and 1/2. Thought I must have ate something that stuck. This week it happened again, except on the second day it did not get better, and then I got the hic cups that came and went constantly for over 24 hours. Needless to say yesterday my doc ordered an upper GI. The thin Barium wouldn't even go down. I had a slippage, and I was totally swollen up whick blocked my opening. After spending all day at the hospital, I was finally released to my Doctor's office across the street and he did a complete Unfill.....But he said after 2 weeks the swelling should be gone and the band should fit back into place, and we will start the refill process w/5ccs. I am disappointed, but thrilled that it doesn't involve another surgery at this time. I have lost approx 60 lbs since surgrey. I had about 3 months of very slow weight loss. The past 2 months I believe I hit my sweet spot and had lost about 4-6 lbs a month. I have to be very good this unrestricted 2 weeks, as I just started my vacation. He said it was possible that I didn't chew well on something 2 weeks ago that started the slippage, but that we may not ever know. Anyone else have this happen??

Jodie

Thanks everyone for the posts. I am doing really well since my fill last week. No PB, no hunger. Tomorrow I go in for my barrium swallow.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
