Hi all!

I was banded 1 week ago, and I'm still feeling pretty lousy. Honestly, I think it's the gas more so than anything else. The incisions are fine. I'm ever so slightly tender around the port area. I'm guessing this is normal. I wake up fine, but in the afternoon I get these gas pains that turn me into a crying, blubbering mess. I thought they were getting better, I was even going to venture out today, but this afternoon when I went to work (I work from home) the pain was so bad I was crying and shaking. It is during these times that I really question whether I made the right decision.

I'm down 16 pounds between the 2-day Clear liquids and post-surgery, but I still find it nearly impossible to get down my Protein shakes every day. I know I'm not drinking enough either, but I can't even bear the thought of it. I'm walking as much as I can and taking Gas-X. I'm still infrequently taking my Lortab, just mainly because of the gas pain. I just wonder if it's normal. My doctor can't see me until Wednesday for my postop, and I haven't called in because I'm assuming this is normal. I've had another surgery, and I bounced back a lot quicker than this.

Please tell me it will get better and I won't regret having done this.

I'm feeling a little down at this point.

Thanks.

SM

Im a week and a half post op and I've been going through the same thing. I called in and spoke to a nurse and she recommended i include some yogurt during the day to put back some of the stuff in my intestines depleted from all the antibiotics during surgery. i've been doing that and i have felt better. i've also been laying on a heating pad at night and thats helps alot.

I'm also very sick of the Protein shakes. Thats all I drank besides Water for the 2 weeks before my surgery. So I've been drinking New whey liquid Protein in Water during the day and that has been a lot easier. Hang in there. It was a great decision. one more week and i think we'll both be feeling great!

My surgery was on the 22nd of May and on the 7th day I was fine. Drank chicken broth for my meals. gas was obnoxious but livable. Hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
