thin within 0 Posted July 3, 2008 There is a man outside apraising my house. Trying to get the money for surgery and that means refinancing my home. I am self pay and because i have sucky insurance that has a clause a no weight loss surgery! But I so desperately want it and need the money soon. I have my appointments set for all my consult. They called yesterday and i now have an appointment for my ugi and h pylori test. July 21 and I feel once i have the money my surgery will be set. So need some reassurance and prayers that i will get the money I need and that It will be worth it. Plus right now paying out of my own pocket ouch! So anyway I just am desperate and scared. My family is supportive my mom said she would help if we get in a bind. I am 47 yrs old and dont think that it will come to that but mom is that supportive. My husband is very loving and supportive but nervous and loves me they way I am but understands way I feel and want to help me regardless what we have to do. My dad died young and lost both his legs before he died and dont want this to happen to me. It is my biggest fear. sorry this is long and probally this is in the wrong place. But i know yall will understand. Because thats what freinds are for. Renea
Kalipso2 25 Posted July 3, 2008 i was self pay too. i thought about it long and hard too. it's going to take me 6 years to pay off my surgery but it is SO worth it!!
Harkingluv 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Hi. I was self-pay too. I talked it over with the office manager at the surgeon's office because I was concerned about the money too. She had also had LBS and was also self-pay. She made a statement that I will pass on to you..."It will be the best investment that you make in yourself". And that was it. Plus think about all the money you will save on groceries and going out to dinner. Also, think about everything you will be gaining...yeah, you will be going into a little bit of debt, but you are gaining a healthy life. That is priceless! I haven't really worried about the money since the surgery. We put it on a credit card!!!! Plus, after I had the surgery, my roof started leaking in my house and we have to pay for that now and add it to our dept, but I do not, nor will I ever regret having the surgery. PDXBandster 0 Posted July 3, 2008 It's a really hard decision to make, I'm self-pay, too. However, when I look at my expenses right now (i.e. medical expenses, food, prescriptions, etc.) I know I will be saving SO MUCH in the end. But the biggest thing I will be saving is my own life!!! (cheesy i know...but still true
NANAbanded 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Self pay, also. I to had to get 2nd mortgage to finance it. BUTTTT, I can say that I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I was talking to a friend today...whom also had LB...I told her this is the best thing that I've done. It makes me feel good to finely eat with family and friends and actually get full before anyone else. Good luck with your own decision.
NY2LAGirl 0 Posted July 3, 2008 Thin-within welcome to the self-pay club! I know how you feel I know as a mom and wife it is hard to put ourselves first sometimes but with the support of a very loving husband I made the decision and out came the credit card (14,000 reward points too!). I have lost 20 lbs so far with a way to go but so far I have no regrets. It seemed like the last few months before surgery every week when I got on the scale I was gaining. Now I am losing and knowing it won't be coming back. I am 49 and just wanted to live a long happy life which I would not be able to do without my band. So be proud of the decision you have made and be grateful you have the love and support of those most important to you. Good luck on your journey!
justwant2lose 0 Posted July 3, 2008 I am also a self pay, and I would do it again in a heartbeat, BECAUSE I no longer obsess about food 24 hours a day. I wake up in the morning with the mindset that my band will dictate what I eat everyday. My band is finicky some days but I listen to it. That in itself made the surgery worth it for me. Good luck and you will make the right decision.

Wising you the best..
HeatherO 7 Posted July 3, 2008 I am self pay and it was by far the best money I have ever spent. I have absolutely no regrets.
strikeuptheband 16 Posted July 3, 2008 I am also in the self pay club. I was able to pull together a couple of nest eggs and borrowed $1800 from my 401k. yea, ouch. But its not a lot to pay back and I am not sorry I did it. It is totally worth whatever you have to jump through to make it happen. Good luck with your decision.
