Disappointment!!

Recommended Posts

I just got approved for surgery by Tricare on Tuesday!! and was looking forward to my physch eval on Wednesday - 7/2/08. After the appointment, I was hoping to have my surgery scheduled and beging the journey...

My phych eval was at 1 pm and then moved back to 3 pm...and then cancelled!! So I had to make a new appointment and can't get in for another eval until July 15th. They only do phych evals 2 days a week (tuesday and wednesday) and something happened to where whe cancelled all appointments on 7/2. I would think that they would do 3 days next week or move them to thursday.

I know it's only a small setback...but I want to get this started and losing weight!!

Be pacient! In my experience, things happen for a reason...it will all work out, and it's not that much longer!

Hang in there.

I had to wait for three weeks to get my psych doctor to dictate the info needed and am now at the two week point waiting on my sleep study results and the one week mark waiting on insurance approval.

It seems that a big part of this process is waiting.

It will go quickly.....just not quickly enough for us with little patience.

Thank you all for your words of patience!!

Zeama...what other tests have you had to do? I had my nutrition exam and that is it so far. What other things will Tricare make me endure? Do you have Tricare Prime?

I had to go to the lapband orientation meeting at the hospital, and I also had to go to one support meeting and the diet class. I had bloodwork, EKG, EGD, psych evaluation, gallbladder u/s, and h pylori test. I would go ahead and schedule all your tests now,and that way you'll be set!

I have Tricare Prime and was able to do my gallbladder u/s, bloodwork and EKG by just calling my PCM at the White Clinic at the Army hospital. If you have any questions just let me know.

I too had a delay last year when I started. I was suppose to have my surgery in May, but a family emergency delayed the surgery until July 6th. I was discouraged also until I realized that the time change must have been for a bigger reason than I knew. I know you are ready, but maybe this will help you to stay motivated. Remember the lap band alone isn't the answer, but is sure is a big help.

Zeama...sorry for all the questions!! But were the EKG, EGD gallbladder and pylori test something that Tricare made you do or done because of your doctor and comorbids? My doctor never mentioned any of these tests. Tricare has approved the surgery but nothing else (except for 4 office consultations). I paid for the nutrition (and the physch) eval out of pocket since it wasn't approved by tricare.

Thanks for answering the questions. I'm sure I will have more!!

I had my surgery on the 25th of June and it was all TriCare Prime approved - all the way down to the nutritionist and psych consult. My initial consult was on May 8. They scheduled my surgery that day, so tricare would have a target date to work with, then I got all my referrals and appts in before then. During my preop, Monday before the surgery, the did labs, ekg and pre-admit. It was really so much easier than I thought it would be. In fact, my nurse told me tricare is one of the easiest insurances to work with. Maybe those other tests are standard for your surgeon, but I don't think they are tricare standards. Not sure, though. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
