Bad bander, but curious question!! ha ha

Apples and oranges. Scared of not losing weight vs. scared of screwing up your band by not following MD instructions are two very different things.

Disagree. It's more "Pink Lady" versus "Granny Smith" :)

The anxiety behind it is the same: weight correlating to health.

I dont get the comparison ? your talking about people who PUT Their band at risk because they are scared of not losing weight, because that is what happens when you keep your band too tight and you start to PB because of it. . Vs People who DO NOT Put their band at risk by following Docs orders because they are scared they DO NOT Want to screw things up ?

I dont see how that is the same ? Am I following you or is it too early LOL

I agree. It's a healthy thing to look both ways before crossing the street. We are afraid of getting hit by a car, a healthy fear. It is also a healthy fear to want to do what the docs suggest so the band lasts.

An unhealthy fear is doing stupid things that put your band at risk in the name of losing weight. One won't be overly successful with no band.

I think I've asked this before when similar threads popup...but: What's the nice way to tell someone what they're doing is not right?

I don't candy coat things for my 11 year old, and I don't candy-coat things for adults. You wanted input? Well, you posted to a online board and got INPUT.

I'm not "going after" you, but you said initially you’re doing things your way. Yeah, well, I did them my way for 30+ years and got FAT. I think I’ll try the docs way this time.

But, hey – if your way works, go for it.

But, your way doesn’t work, does it? Your way got you here, and now you’re scared. I’m scared too! I don’t want to stay fat. I don’t want to have had surgery for nothing – or worse end up with complications.

Follow your doctor’s after care information. If your doctor sucks and you didn’t receive good care instructions then research it yourself. You obviously have access to internet…look at reputable sites and get the information yourself.

But don’t ask for experiences from experienced bandsters and then gripe about the input you get back. That’s a huge turnoff for people who are trying to help.

And, one reason people are helping is because this is important to us. We’re all here together, going through the same journey. It’s like parents who see their kids doing the same destructive behaviors. We’ve seen what it can do and we want to stop it before it does damage. Keep in mind, if no one cared then there wouldn’t be so many pages of postings.

If everyone cheated on their post-op diet, would you? And WHY?

i know this is probably meant to be rhetorical, but i'll answer...

ummm... not only no but hell NO... i dont want to mess up my band ... not only post-op, but post-fill as well...

i went for a slight fill yesterday. while in the waiting room, i met a woman who was also getting a fill. during our conversation, she mentioned how starving she was and how she couldnt wait to go to Chipotle (:drool:) for dinner with her son. i asked her what Soups they have and if they were any good. "SOUP? i'm not getting any Soup, i'm getting a barbacoa (sp??) burrito with extra rice."

HUH???? not only are you going to jeopardize your band and eat right after a fill, but you are going to eat an enormous Chipotle burrito??? yeah, go right ahead...

:tt2::cursing:

i just pretended i had to go to the bathroom and walked away.

How does she do that??? I can't eat a burrito from Chipotle anymore at all. One bite and I'm sliming.

I can handle the salads, though - but not a whole one. I take more than 1/2 to go. ...then it gets slimy at home in the refrigerator and I end up tossing it. It's a waste really, which is why I don't go very often.

My nutritionist told me she has had people tell her that the last time they came in for a fill, they went out and ate pizza, just to see if they had restriction. WTH??????????????? Slap someone up side the head!!! You don't go out after a fill and eat to see IF you have restriction. That is what some people seem to do, cheat, to see if anything bad is going to happen right away.

I have people tell me all the time they "tested" their restriction w/ a pizza or a piece of bread !! DUHHH Even after they have had a fill for a while and want to "see if " they still have restriction or see what lack of restriction they have they will "test" It .

you "test" it by if you can eat MORE than you normally do . THAT"S testing it and telling you you need a fill !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
