Thank you all so much for your replies. I eat at least 60 grams of Protein a day and often more but I am not eating much fat so that may be the problem. I'll also try the Biotin.

Kathy - I really think it's the fat issue - I asked my doc and he said they don't know why Protein - antheistha (sp) or trauma from surgery - but I had a gf doing just medifast and she lost ton's of hair - she wasn't getting much fat at all - so due to the fact that she was getting all her protein - no surgery - it makes sense that it's the fat issue -

Since I am most likely related to Paula Dean (butter) Emril (pork fat rules) I do still get fats in my healthy eating but it's 1/16th of what it use to be and I have thin hair to begin with and I haven't lost any...

I've lost a lot of hair today. I nearly burst into tears this morning when I was washing and then brushing may hair. Multiple strands were coming out at once. While I love my best friend, I don't really feel like I can talk to her about it. When I first noticed the Hair loss a couple of weeks ago, I was expressing my concern about it to her. I was obviously very upset. She looked at me and said, "I think you need to find something else that you like about yourself other than your hair." URRRRRR!!! I was ticked....I'm a very confident person and there are a lot of things I like about myself. I had a normal human emotion after all!

I asked my doctor about it yesterday during my pre op exam how to avoid Hair loss. He said make sure I am taking all of my Vitamins (multi, Calcium plus Vitamin D, I have low B12 levels already so I have to take B12 as well), take in all my liquids, and all my Protein and I shouldn't have a problem. I lose hair on a daily basis, my husband makes fun of me wondering daily who sheds more me or the dogs. I have a huge head of thick long hair, and don't want to lose any of it.

By the way, I also asked if there was a limit to the amount of protein a body can ingest at once. He said in liquid form, he would suggest 20 grams or less at a time, in solids or less liquid forms up to 40 grams per serving. He said the liquid tends to go through without absorbing as much, and would hate for me to think I am taking in 40 when I am flushing out some of it through urination. Just something to think about.......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
