You may be nauseated, but, I dont hear much on vomiting. Not once did I vomit. And I was banded on 6/09/08. Think that its harder once you get banded. I dont know.

I was banded on 4/21/08 and thought I'd never vomit - I did for the very first time about a week or so ago - due to not chewing well.

First it was "stuck" and it was the worst pain EVER! Thought it would never go away - I couldn't get the food to come up or down, it was just there.

Then by the grace of God, it came up, but never do I want to experience that again.

Solution ~ chew, chew, chew. I truly believe this is the only reason why vomiting occurs - well that, plus eating more than tolerated, which we shouldn't be doing in the first place!

May you all never experience it!

i was banded on 04/21/08 and i've PB'd more times than i'd like to say... all completely my fault until i got the hang of things. i went from the pre-op liquid diet to the post-op liquid diet to mushies then had my first fill which put me back on liquids again for 3 days. by the time i was able to eat real food i was ravenous as well as a little restricted and i went off the deep end.

i learned pretty quickly what i could eat and what my body will no longer handle. i also learned that just because i'm banded and my body doesn't allow me to eat more than a 1/2 cup at a time, my brain still thinks the food looks and smells too good to stop. that has been a very painful lesson since my 2nd fill 3 weeks ago.

hopefully now that i'm listening to my stomach and not my brain my PB'ing days are over!

1 day post op. I ended up with a stomach virus and I was throwing up everywhere. I called my doctor and she admitted me to the hospital where I stayed for 5 days on IV drugs. It was the most painful experience ever, but I think that had more to do with it being 1 day post op. Goodnews was my band was the exact same as it was post op. They take x-rays and fluro after every surgery and my band had not moved a mm and to date my band is still good.

how funny... we were both banded the same day and my name is kris, too! i started at 218 and am down to 195, but i haven't done all that i can to be less - need to step it up a knotch, but am thankfull that after 2 fills, i'm still able to eat and tolerate everything - just need to make sure i chew the hell out of it first!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
