sacrament bread?

Recommended Posts

I am about to get banded on the 15th. I 'm told not to eat any bread esp. white as it will gum up the band. I don't want to have problems, so what do you do about the sacrament bread? I know it is just a tiny bit. But would and could that cause any problems? I don't want to slime or have problems in church. Thanks for any info. Am being banded at Northwest Weight Loss Center in Washington state. I spend 6 months here in Marysville, WA then 6 months in Laredo, MO. Will do this until I can reverse the weight and diabetic issue. Have to use the ins. I have in WA until I do reverse the situation. Other ins. won't even talk to me at this point for life in Missouri. Thanks for the info. JuneR

I guess eating alot of bread will gum it up. I had that happen once eating a footlong from Subway.

But a tiny smidgen that you can hold in your mouth until it breaks down..... isn't what they are referring to.

Hope this helps.

What I do is quickly look for the smallest piece and one that is mostly crust. I haven't had a problem with it. I figure we'll be blessed for doing what we're supposed to be doing.

I haven't been banfded yet, but I thought about this the first Sunday after my surgery was scheduled. I realized, as Sailingirl has said, that I would look for the smallest piece I could find quickly. Then, I realized that if I allowed it to get mushy and soft, it was much less 'bread-like', so I'm not anticipating any issues.

I would even be willing to take small pieces off and swallow them one at a time, though I don't feel that is going to be necessary.

It is a good question, though, and I'm glad you opened up the discussion. Thanks.

Seriously, no prob. I thought I'd have problems and even recently when I accidentally got a really big piece (it wasn't completely torn) it went down fine. I figure the big guy will take care of it.

As a Nurse, I wouldn't suggest partaking of the bread until you are able to eat solid food. The first 6 weeks after surgery you are healing and the band is "settling". I was on liquids for 3 weeks, so abstained for those 3 weeks, then when started on soft food able to take a small piece and chew it very well. This is just my opinion as a Nurse and experienced bandster, so you can do whatever you want.:biggrin2:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
