Hello Josh,

When I was in the hospital I was roommates with 19 year old. She was very nervous and scared also. After surgery, we would walk up and down the hallway (in pain but did what the doctors said). We had surgery on 3/17 and she is now down over 50 pounds. She works out everyday (started over 350 pounds) and enjoys life. Just remember you are important and this is for your future - you will do well. Just follow the program and you are on your way. Best!

Good luck Josh. I wish I had this done when I was 19! My advise would be to make sure you have all of your liquids in the house so that you dont have to worry about going out to the store to buy them after surgery. I made sure I stocked up on sugar free Jello, crystal light, sugar free ice pops and chicken broth. your doctor may give you other items but you get the idea. another good thing to have on hand is a heating pad. it helps with the shoulder pain from the gas. aside from that just try to relax and make sure you are getting a little walking in after surgery to help with the gas pains.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
