My favorite author is Lillian Jackson Braun. It's called the Cat Who...series. They're very easy reads. One of my mom's patients gave it to her for being a wonderful nurse while she was in the hospital. She lent it to me, and I've never given it back. I have the whole series now. It's mysteries, and Qwilleran, the narrator and his two cats, Koko & YumYum help him solve mysteries. It sounds stupid, but it's quite interesting to me.

I'd go with that, a laugh is always good, except that I probably won't be able to get them for a while. I might have to wait for the next round.

Janet Evanovich is okay with me - I think my mom has read all of those - what do we do just start with the first one? Or does it matter? I also like the Lillian Jackson Braun idea - I'm a total cat lover so think that would be interesting.

I say let's do it! Today is July 14th so in about a month we can have our first "discussion" :smile2: I'm going to call my mom and see if she still has those books. She's a retired librarian and has a literal library at her house!

I would love to join. I just finished "Memory Keeper's Daughter" (great book) as well as "Water for Elephants". I read just about anything. I just started "The Doctor's Wife" and I bought "The Historian (about Vampires).

Sounds good! Now, what's the title of the one we're doing? :cool2:

What was Water for Elephants like? If you like vampire books have you read the ones by Stephenie Meier (sp?). It's a series, the fourth one I think is ready in the stores (but I'm too cheap, I wait until I get it at the library). I've read the first three and they're really good. There's werewolves AND vampires, all set in today's world, and believe it or not very realistic, like as if you could jump right into their world. Where I live we just had a book club on her and everyone loved her books.

The Doctor's Wife sounds familiar, like I've read it before. What's that about again?

I've just read The Warrior Heir which was really good. It's the start of a series. It's about a boy who was supposed to be born a wizard but actually turned into a warrior/wizard combo, again set in today's world. I checked the next books out at the library already. Can't wait to see what happens next!

One for the Money is the name of the first Janet Evanovich book. I also have The Historian and haven't read it yet. Water for Elephants sounds good too.. Let's take a final vote - sorry, I'm a Libra and have trouble making decisions! (I don't really believe in astrology but I blame it on decisionmaking sometimes! :cool2:

I have a confession to make - I have decided to go with the Vertical Sleeve surgery instead of the LapBand. My doctor says the sleeve is a better choice for me since I have a hiatal hernia and can avoid the potential for band slippage which is apparently higher in people with these hernias. I have my consultation with him in the morning and I guess we'll discuss it more. I don't know if I'm supposed to be on this website if I don't have Lapband ? :cool2: I'll let you know the final decision.

Well, I'm a Leo and a bully and can make decisions (I'm not sure if that's what all Leos are like!) So One For the Money it is. Thanks Alison!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
