August 6th, 2008 Surgery Date????

Recommended Posts

Finished my first nutrionist phone appointment. goal for me in the next month before surgery is to maintain the weight loss i have done now. I was surprised that i will be able to continue doing weight watchers as my diet program before. Boy am I glad. I still hope to loose a couple more pounds. Two other goals we set are for me to cut back even more on my coffee. This will be really really hard, have already given up my espresso. Have I mentioned I work a graveyard shift.. And the the other goal was to get back into walking my dog at least 3 days a week. I have went lax on that past month and half with work issues and joint pains.

Hi Fleminld,

I was wondering how you were doing with your new goals. Did you start walking your dogs this week? I know the feeling of joint pain I have it my right knee really bad! But, I can't let it get the best of me I really have to fight threw it (without hurting myself)...I have to get myself back in shape!!! I will feel so much better when I do, and it will for sure help with the whole weight loss journey. I'm starting couch to 5K, I'm not going to be able to finish the whole thing before my surgery but, I think it's going to help me with losing the 10 lbs I need to lose before Aug. 6th!

Man giving up coffee when having to work the graveyard shift sounds like alot to ask!LOL

Hi great, my surgery is scheduled for August 7th at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. Have pre-op meetings tomorrow. They called today to ask me if I wanted July 17th for surgery date cause they had a cancellation. But my hubby is having his aortic value replaced on July14th and ill probably be still in same hospital till July 17th or 18th. So I am sticking with my original date.

I went for a walk with my dog every day this past week. 30 mins or for an hour. I have my 4 hour orientation call in the morning when I get off work. I am looking forward to the class, just not the fact that it is 4 hours long. Hope they give lots of breaks.

Hello! I am getting banded on Aug. 6 also! I am very excited and nervous and all of those feelings I am sure everyone else has.

I am supposed to do a pre-op diet of two high Protein shakes twice a day plus a salad and lean cuisine for two weeks prior to surgery. However, I have two issues ... 1) I will be in Key West for lobster season the week before we leave:cool2:. 2) I do no like shakes of any kind!!

I am doing a sort of low-carb weight watchers thing and I am losing weight, but I am just worried about getting enough Protein post-band.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Anna

for the shakes : i use carnation no sugar added w/fatfree milk, blend it with a banana , couple pieces of ice and a tablepoon or less of reduced fat Peanut Butter. Only if your doc will let you have the banana. It makes it thicker and taste's nummy.

I was told to get whey Protein powder to add to the shakes and broth for post surgery liquid period.

The 4 hour class was long but lots of information. Lots of folks there. I have my pre-op appointment on the 18th. I need to make sure and write down a list of questions.

How is everyone doing on their pre-op diets and exercises?

I'm doing very bad on the pre op diet...but, I have started doing couch to 5k, so at least I'm getting the exercise in now! I'm trying to do better with the whole eating thing! I have to or the band is never going to work for me.

Is your doc going to require a 2 week liquid? Mine luckily does not, has you do a calorie restricted type one and just liquids the day before surgery. The exersise does help, but takes a while to make it a habit and if you miss a couple days its hard to get back to again.

try doing the 3 Meal Replacement shakes, 2 fruits, and 2 lowfat frozen meals a day thing. It works. 10 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks isnt easy to loose. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can loose another 5 before surgery. If only my chocolate/sweet craving would go away.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
