An American with an Irish-food question...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was just banded last week here in NYC, so I'm a bit far away from trying this particular food again, but I have to know: Does anyone have trouble eating brown bread? I fell in serious love with it on my first trip to Ireland 20-some years ago, and just recently discovered that Amazon sells quick-bread mixes from McCann's here in the U.S. I'll give it up if I must, of course, but I thought I'd do some informal research first. Thanks!

Hi Sheila,

Yes I agree, the brown bread we have here is great! Congrats on having the surgery, hope you have fantastic success with it. As for which bread you will be able to eat, well as a general rule of thumb, bread is a no no once you get good restriction which for most people is by their third or fourth fill. But I do know banded people who eat our great brown bread, albeit, very slowly and usually sliced very thinly and sometimes toasted twice, but its not impossible. I would say to you to enjoy an odd slice of bread whiile you can, even though you've been banded it will probably be a couple of months before your restriction level will prevent you from having it.

Thanks, Coco! I know white bread gives people a lot of trouble, and I guess I was just hoping against hope the brown bread would somehow be magic. Ah well, we do what me have to. No turning back now!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
