Hi

Any new info on left shoulder pain? I started a thread, but it didn't show up, or I can't find it. In any case I will keep my question short.

I'm 2 mos since surgery and last night I had quite an experience..

It could be gas - I will get it some times still 11 months out if I over eat - try a gas x strip... If that doesn't work call your doc...

I still get the shoulder pain (feels like the post op gas pain) when I am "over empty" (if I haven't eaten in over 5 or 6 hours). It can be very achy.

I have an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow and I have to say that this is the one thing about the whole think I am scared most about. I have went to the hospital for this kind of pain before! The breathing in part scared me the most. I was prescribed a muscle relaxer from the hospital and it had helped amazingly. I don't know if you can use a muscle relaxer with the band or not. Does anyone know?

Great info, Thanks. I have been having the shoulder pains since I have hit my sweet spot but nevethought they might have something to do with the band.

You have shoulder pain after surgery because the surgeon fills your abdominal cavity with air to make surgery easier, it opens your abdominal area and makes makes room to access your organs. Often some of that air stays in after the surgery. The result is pain in your left shoulder. Eventually your body should absorb all of this air but the timing is different for everyone.

I'm 4 months out and also have pains in my left shoulder. I've noticed its only when I eat too much. I think its gas build up, but my husband wants me to ask the doc when I go for another fill. It must be a norm...so many of us seem to experience it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
