Hello from South Australia

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

I am nervous and I am craving a toasted cheese sandwich.

I am being banded in 20 days. I have had to be on the Optifast diet for a month. I have lost a little weight so far which I am hoping to keep off.

I started at 151kg. Which means I have to lose half my body weight to be in the right vicinity of the right weight for my height.

I think I am starting to mourn the foods that I can no longer eat in any quantity. Like cheese and bread. I just have to be remember that I am sadder as the person that I have let myself become.

Thanks for making for interesting reading

It's normal to crave food when you are on a liquid diet -- you start to feel like you will never be able to eat again. But realistically, you probably will be able to have a grilled cheese sandwich again. (I had half of one this weekend). Yes, some people have trouble with bread and/or cheese, but many don't -- especially with toasted bread and melted cheese. In reality, there are few foods you will probably have to give up forever in any quantity.

I would never tell someone to cheat on a pre-op diet, because it's important, but honestly one grilled cheese sandwich isn't going to hurt you. The big danger in cheating once though is that it kind of opens the door to more cheating.

Thank you for replying! And the encouraging words about one of my favourite food groups!!

I am going to save my 'cheat' for my birthday in a few days. Coincidentally it is after my weigh in with my surgeon. Does that make it a double cheat?

Thanks again.

Hi Dabble, I too am from South Australia.

Tomorrow (27/11), I go to see the surgeon for my op date and to start my optfast plan. Have heard lots of different things but am keeping an open mind. Anything has to be better that living as a fatty LOL.

I am a widow and have met the man of my life 6 years ago, we plan to marry next year and I would so like to lose the weight for my wedding day, and afterwards of course.

Hope to be able to add to this forum and to get some answers and advice. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
