Dating after Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! I have a couple of questions about dating life, after/during the band (and weight loss): 1.) Do you tell your date (probably not on the 1st date) about your band? 2.) Have you ever had a bad response from a date to the lap band (not interested after finding out)? 3.) Sorry if this one is too X-rated, but does the port get in the way during sex (uncomfortable?, feel the port?)? I'm being banded on 7/24/08 and I've been thinking of many questions! Thanks all!

I have only told 2 people about my lapband, and that was because I needed someone to stay with me after the surgery. When would I tell someone I was dating, at about the same time he transitioned from boyfriend to fiance.

SEX

No port does not get in the way during sex, trust me it is the last thing I am thinking about. In terms of the scar, I have a long standing booty friend (I am talking 10 years) I just told him it was from a hiatal hernia repair. This partly true, since the doc did a hiatal hernia repair at the same time.

TMI - I recently got a full brazilian wax, needless to say, I dont think the scar (or my hysterectomy scar) were noticed!!

1: Actually most of my friends dont even know..so no

2: Actually once it did bother me..or I thought it did..but nope that was my hip bone..found it!!

3: Ive had people when they found out say O you took the easy way out. which is why so many of my friends dont know, Its a topic people seem to feel free about letting their beliefs out about, even when theyre not wanted... I mean if a date told you about his concern over his uncle who is loony as a bat do you tell him O well thatstuff travels in the gene pool? NO! ( or good manners dictate a negative response ) but yet people think i want imput on what they think about my choice

For me most of my friends and co-workers know. I am just not a person who can keep something like this quiet.

I went on a 2nd date this weekend...It was a dinner date. He kept questioning me why I was not eatting and why I ordered such a small meal. He honestly seemed hurt I was not eatting. So I explained to him about the band. He was very releived to know why I was not eatting. And I even have a 3rd date.

Oh good that's a relief thanks! Good luck on your next date =} I have also told a few people because I can't always keep quiet, but I still don't want the handful of people that I did tell to tell everyone...oh well, we'll see I guess. I just don't like for my ex-boyfriend(s) to know-mostly!

Not that many people know I am banded. I told my bf pretty quickly though, once I realized we were serious and that I would be eating often with him. He is really into fitness and said he was impressed that I cared enough about my health to have this surgery.

No, the port does not bother me at all in any position.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
