Getting lapband and tubes tied?

Recommended Posts

Just asked my surgeon if I could get my tubes tied during lapband procedure? I have been wanting to get my tubes tied but didn't want to go through the whole ordeal of procedure. Now that I'm getting the lapband, I thought this is the perfect opportunity. Has anyone else out there had other procedures done during there lapband? I'm currently awaiting an answer from doctor.

How ironic. I posted the same question in the general forum. A lady said that she had a hernia repaired and banded at the same time. I haven't talked to a doctor yet but I would love to have my tubies tied and banded at the same time. I think that I'm going to call my insurance company tomorrow and see what I have to do to get pre-approved. If your doctor lets you do both let me know.

Will do April. I have not yet heard back from them since they told me they were waiting to ask the main doctor. But I will call today to see if they have an answer for me.

I had my tubes tied about 7 years ago before my lapband. It was the best decision I ever made. Because I was 100 lbs overweight it was a little rough getting them done lapascopically though. I had to have extra incisions. Good luck.

I hope I am able to go through with it. I don't want to be on the pill for the rest of my life and this seems like a good time as any.

I hope it works out for you. My insurance covered it with my Gyno all but $10 I believe. It is worth looking into even if you have to have 2 surgeries. Good luck.

Just got call from surgeon's office and they said it's fine as long as the GYN I choose will do it laporascopically and works in the same hospital. So now I need to try and find a GYN in that location. She also said it shouldn't add too much time to my surgery since tube tying is quick. So I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for all your feed back.

I had my appendix taken out last year. I wasn't quite as big as I am right now but it was still rough on me. I really want my tubes tied because personally I don't want any more kids and I don't want to get in one of those "accident" situations. In my post someone asked me why I wanted my tubes tied at 26. I just don't want any more kids simply as that.. But anyway. Now I have something to look forward too.

I am surprised your surgeon said yes. My gyn was willing but my surgeon said no way cuz lapband is considered a sterile procedure while tube tying is whats called a dirty procedure & it could introduce bacteria into the band site. Good luck & hope it goes well for you. I would have LOVED to get both done at the same time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
